WE DON'T AGREE ON ANYTHING!

Husband and I recently found out we are having a girl - very happy and excited BUT can not think of ANY names we agree on. We had a boys name sorted, no problem at all but for some reason choosing a girls name is driving us round the bend.

My top;
Tabitha
Ophelia
Aurora
Arietty

His;
Lizzie
Olive

I hate his, he hates mine. We are both very picky on what we don't like - I dislike place names, names that are too popular (love Evie but know FIVE newborns already for example Sad, love Sophia but know three) he doesn't like what he considers 'American-ised' names like Braylon, Miley, Riley, Cadence etc. Neither of us like names like Hope, Faith, I don't like very modern names, he dislikes very old fashioned names.. it's exhausting!!

I'm scared we'll never pick one or that we will but one of us will hate it! Can you think of any names we might like?! Or is this an impossible task and we should just call her little L forever!? StarFlowersBear

If you like Evie and Sophia, what about Sylvie? It has a similar sound to both but is far less common.

CakeRattleandRoll · 15/01/2017 08:16

How about:
Annalise
Catherine
Cora
Elspeth
Gabrielle
Joanna
Josephine
Lorna
Madeleine
Marissa
Rosanna
Vanessa
Veronica
Vivian
Zoe

Hmmm how about
Eliza
Miranda
Lauren
Freya

GingerLDN · 15/01/2017 23:55

Evelyn, Vivienne, Ellen, Victoria, Edith, Edie, Tilly, Maeve, Violet, Cora, Elsie, Stella, Celia

GingerLDN · 15/01/2017 23:59

Or Meredith

AbernathysFringe · 16/01/2017 00:11

I think his name choices are frumpy, especially Olive. Yours are vintagey, possibly a little frilly. Prefer yours. I wasn't married at the time I had my dd so we agreed, since she had his surname, I could choose her forenames BUT he had power of veto. Does it have to be a 50/50 agreement for you two? Could you have more say over the first and him over the middle for example?

Some ideas:
Seraphina
Lisette
Leonie
Evalina
Cordelia

Steppemum

What is the name?!!

Manumission · 16/01/2017 00:24

Arietty is an amazing name and your DH's choices are awful. I think you need to resort to hypnosis, brainwashing or using your sexual powers TBH. This is serious.

MakeItStopNeville · 16/01/2017 00:32

steppemum, that is exactly how we picked DC4's name as we'd pretty much exhausted all our first choices.

Op, how about India? After your mate at school? It had become a bit of a cliche name 13-15 years ago but I think that stigma has gone again.

tippii · 16/01/2017 00:47

Anastasia
Annabel (Annie)
Alida
Alina/Elina
Elouise
Selina
Celine/Seline
Julia
Marianne
Matilda

@AbernathysFringe

Other way round, surely? Inasmuch as none of OP's names are vintage per se, as have never been popular in the past (Arrietty for example, whilst v cute, is a made up name from The Borrowers).

Whereas Lizzie and Olive (which aren't to my personal taste) are very much vintage names and were indeed popular or in fairly common use "back in the day". That said, Elizabeth/Lizzie never went out of fashion completely and is still resolutely in the top 100, and AFAIK Olive is not enormously unusual either - I know two under 4!

Ignore my pedantry, OP! I was going to suggest Matilda but have been beaten to it! Good luck!

rumplestiltskins · 16/01/2017 01:38

My dd is Mika Isabella.

Also love Nova.

DowhatIwanttodo · 16/01/2017 06:36

I like Tabitha and Lizzie (prefer Elizabeth.)

Olive is so bad.

MrsSparkles · 16/01/2017 06:39

We also had this and as others have ended up with a book going through name by name.

We only found 2 we agreed on but that was enough.

astormgivenflesh · 16/01/2017 12:22

Really love Matilda
I don't like Laura/Lara/Lauren but Genevieve and Evelina are beautiful!
Thank you all so much for your help, so many great ideas here - Choosing the right name is so exhausting!

Yes Mouse you're right. Wouldn't say her choices were frumpy though which Olive really is to me - On the Buses or Little Miss Sunshine. Didn't know where Arietty came from! Interesting. Like Vanessa then, one that sounds like it was around a long time but was made up by an author.
