So... have been looking through my family tree and the name Raile has been used for generations as a middle name. Anyone heard of it? Will probably use it for a future ds middle name if we have a third!

Am aware that it sounds like rail as in rail way!

Bit odd but nice to keep a family tradition going IMO.

Bobbybobbins · 13/01/2017 17:35

Interesting and why not for a middle name.

Bobbybobbins · 13/01/2017 17:36

Sorry didn't phrase that very well, I meant 'go for it'! Smile

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/01/2017 17:39

Keep the family name going! Great idea as a middle name, plus it could be used as a 'known as' when older if he wants to stand out from the crowd of Charlies, Daniels, Jakes and Joshuas...

RachelRagged · 13/01/2017 17:42

Is it pronounced as Rayleigh OP ?

Either way its unusual and I'd use it as a middle name.

Redpramlady · 13/01/2017 17:46

I'm thinking as in rail but I can't be sure it's a fair few generations back. I do like it a lot and think it's sits well as a middle name wouldn't be brave enough for first name because of the whole Railway thing!

I clicked to say no no no no no no no

But with the family connection and as a middle name you have won me over! So yes.

WellErrr · 13/01/2017 17:49

Lots of family middle names are weird. Go for it.

Redpramlady · 13/01/2017 17:54

No I'm thinking whether it is pronounced ray Leigh? Or like rail ha!

I think it's fine as a middle name

Jooni · 13/01/2017 22:16

We have a family friend Raili (prn like Riley). It's a Finnish name. Wonder if yours is connected?

Either way, it's different and meaningful and not embarrassing- as a middle name why not?

I would've thought it'd be pronounced either like Ray-lee or like Riley.

It's fine as a middle name Smile

Think it might be a German surname, pronounced 'rye-luh'. Do you have any German heritage?

Joeybee · 23/01/2017 09:20

Never heard of that name. But I love that it's a family name, and probably works quite well as a middle name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/01/2017 10:13

It is indeed pronounced 'Rail', I have just googled it.
I would definitely use it as your Son's middle name, keep the family name alive.

Redpramlady · 23/01/2017 14:14

Thank you! certainly will do!
