I'm so unsure. I think I love it? Sister is Violet - it doesn't really 'go', does it?

What are your opinions? Smile

Love it, would have loved to use for DS but too many Michaels in our families already 😞

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 12/01/2017 02:16

I like it. Classic and underused.

Do siblings names need to 'go'?

Flippingecktucker · 12/01/2017 03:21

Dull I'm afraid.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 12/01/2017 03:22

Underused! I say go for it.

KoalaDownUnder · 12/01/2017 03:34

Boring. Sorry.

Pemba · 12/01/2017 03:47

Nice. Classic. Better than a lot of the names that have been popular in recent years, why not go for it?

Izzyathome · 12/01/2017 04:38

Sorry but dislike it. Feels like a middle aged mans name. Also my DH's name and a number of my friends' dads!! Love em all but it's just a dated name now, especially the nn Mike.

SeashellHoarder · 12/01/2017 06:49

I like it. There are good nicknames for a child and it's a great name for an adult.

Mol1628 · 12/01/2017 06:52

I like it. Underused classic. Maybe it's coming back because I know someone who just had a baby they've named Michael.

Staranise123 · 12/01/2017 06:52

Nice, classic and a refreshing alternative to all the Alfies, Ollies and Harrys.

I act know a little Michael.

Lobelia123 · 12/01/2017 07:09

i think its a beautiful name (in fact its my sons name :) ) I liked it because its a strong, classic name that wont date or come in and out of fashion and also has a beautiful meaning ('God-like' which appealed to me, looking at my beautiful baby with his whole life unshaped and with so much potential before him, as corney as it sounds the divine and wonderful nature of life was very real to me) . If you of the Jewish or Christian faith Michael is also one of the seven archangels so theres a nice association there. I worried initially it would be shortened to Mike or Micky or similar but somehow hes a Michael and that has stuck.

crabb · 12/01/2017 07:15

My DH's name so I love it. But he's 57, so maybe a bit soon for a revival? It is a classic name though.

MollyHuaCha · 12/01/2017 07:17

Lovely classic.name. Go for it!

dalmatianmad · 12/01/2017 07:20

Genuinely dislike this name, I know of a 13 year old old Michael and he's awful, family aren't much better....

My dp is also called Michael but goes by his middle name (and has since he was a teenager) because he thinks it's so hideous Grin

ChickenPoop · 12/01/2017 07:22

Dated one who was an immeasurable knobber, so I don't like it. Wasn't a huge fan of it before either though to be fair. I don't like Mike as a NN either.

I knew a Mikey once, which is even worse.

WaitrosePigeon · 12/01/2017 07:23

Oh god it's so dull.

AuntieStella · 12/01/2017 07:24

I've only ever come across one who is my DC's age (loads in my generation).

It's my second favourite angel name, and I think it works well.

dalmatianmad · 12/01/2017 07:34

I think you need to think about what it will get shortened too aswell:

Mike (magic mike)

Mick (wrong on so many levels)

Mike or mikey (urgh)

Staranise123 · 12/01/2017 09:20

Why would you shorten Michael? It's so easy to say and sounds great.

TheNaze73 · 12/01/2017 09:22

It's in the Graham, Neil, Keith & Clive envelope for me. Very dull

harrietm87 · 12/01/2017 09:23

Lovely name. I've known lots of Michaels and they've all been lovely. Underused now so won't be common but everyone will be able to spell and pronounce.

millymae · 12/01/2017 09:53

Another yes for a Michael too.

Wasn't there a thread yesterday about the name Spike? I went to school with a Spike and grew up thinking that was his real name as that was what everone called him, including the teachers. It was only when he got married that I discovered his real name was Michael and that he had been known as Spike because his parents didn't like Michael being abbreviated to Mike.

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 12/01/2017 10:04

For me it's one of the classic/traditional names that ISN'T just urgh. Along with Alexander.

It's a strong name.

PostTruthEra · 12/01/2017 10:12

I love it. It's a proper name, that's not overused and all the Michaels I've known have been lovely (and all bar one have been Michaels, not Mike. One was a Mick).

I seriously considered the names Michael and Matthew, but went with Samuel.

Sophronia · 12/01/2017 11:31

Love it! It's an underused classic, and much more interesting nowadays than yet another Noah, Oscar or Archie.
