Names you loved but weren't brave enough to use?

I've seen a lot of this, and I love unusual names so I'm wondering what names you would have loved to use but couldnt/wouldnt go for it as its too out there?

for me it'd have to be some of the lesser heard of mythological names Smile

Whilst DH and I agreed on girls names, he hated all my choices for boys. They were

Edwin (most likely choice)
Jolyon
Bertrand (Bertie)
Fabian
Kai.

All chosen for special / personal meanings.

Thankfully we only had daughters, as we would have seriously fallen out if we'd have had a son!

FreddoFrog · 09/01/2017 03:33

Anouk or Anoushka
Matteo

Gorgeous names.

lizzieoak · 09/01/2017 04:35

Araminta, Tilda, Thomasina, Esther, Esmeralda, Daisy, Oonagh, Azure, Plum, Pearl, Cosima, Jocasta, Jemima, Freya. Loads more.

Most of the boys' names that I liked were vetoed by the exh: Sam, Moishe, Asher, Dov, Josiah, Jonas, Noah, Seamus, Colm.

Forgot Odette and Odile. I love O names so much but ex hates them for some reason.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/01/2017 04:37

Sheherezade

catsarenice · 09/01/2017 04:40

Really wanted to call DD Tabitha with middle name Kitten so she'd be known as Tabby Cat. Wasn't allowed Sad

wundringnow · 09/01/2017 06:13

Tabby Cat Grin. That's hilarious!

I have always loved the name Cedar for a girl, but would never be brave enough. I think it's a beautiful, strong name. We went with fairly standard names in the end.

Pluto30 · 09/01/2017 06:18

Arwen for a girl.

Harland for a boy.

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 09/01/2017 06:18

Archipelago Smile

indigo13 · 09/01/2017 08:18

Some of these are so nice, I wish more people would go for it!

The point is that it isn't you who would have to be brave...........

Elbi · 09/01/2017 11:59

Forest (for a girl) or Eos (meaning dawn). DH thought I'd lost my marbles but I still love them. Likewise Aubin or Fen for a boy.

bingolittle · 09/01/2017 12:02

Richeldis

ReallyNotMyProblem · 09/01/2017 12:04

Dd3's name has been mentioned a couple of times, which I'm suprised about as its uncommon but not 'out there'.

I don't actually think I have any I wasn't brave enough to use. Although if I had anymore I know I'd love Ottilie which has been banned! Boo DH

Vanannabananna · 09/01/2017 12:13

Fox and bear.

1horatio · 09/01/2017 12:30

Elbi

Lucky you!
DH well, good for you.

DH took the agreed upon terms (he'd get to give DC both his last names [I wanted him to give her one of his and then double barrel it with mine] and I'd get to choose the first names) so very seriously that he only vetoed the name Myra. (I'm not from the UK).

I could have called DD Wilhelmina or Lettice and he wouldn't have vetoed (seeing as: 'not offensive to him personally or the wider public).

1horatio · 09/01/2017 12:31

That DH and lucky you wasn't meant to be here. Somehow copy pasted from an other thread. Oops.

Ledehe · 09/01/2017 12:41

I'm into Greek Mythological names.

My all time favourite is Andromeda. Also love io

dylsmimi · 09/01/2017 12:44

Atticus

Was on the list for a long while but just wasn't quite brave enough. Also had emmett on the list but don't like the shortening
Ds name has been mentioned up thread and if we had a girl tabitha was down for her middle name

Purplebluebird · 09/01/2017 12:45

I actually braved using an unusual (but not unheard of in my home country) name. My son is named Storm :) Have had only positive reactions to it!

1horatio · 09/01/2017 12:48

I like storm.

DD's name is in no way unheard of and is used in several European countries.
But it has been outside the top 1'000 for the last 10 years. Which probably does make it unusual ;)

DucksSake · 09/01/2017 12:52

My DD is Jemima, I loved Arielle but didn't want how do you pronounce that constantly!
I also loved Blythe but talked myself out of that one too.

playinthedarkness · 09/01/2017 13:02

Loved Gaia but pronunciation might have made things difficult when she was older😃
Gabriel, zachariah
Another one here who wanted Tabitha but as we only had one girl and several boys never got the chance

stabbybitchTheXmasWitch · 09/01/2017 13:03

I wanted:
Tahlia for DD
Ellis for DS1 but he did end up with another uncommon name beginning with E
Haze or lucky for DS2

I was brave enough but they were all vetoed.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2017 13:46

Is Archipelago a person's name? I only know it as the geographical term.
