Claire?

We've recently found out that we are having a baby girl! I love, love, love the name Claire. We think it's gorgeous, very French sounding and uncommon. Her name would be Claire Victoria. My husband is in love as am I but I wanted to ask your opinions on Claire Victoria. We won't do Victoria Claire because I don't like Vicky or Tori. Her older sisters are Olivia Beatrice and Madeline Laura. Do you think Olivia, Madeline and Claire go well together?

I have to say i also have to constantly say clare without an i. It does get a bit irritating

MochaChocaChino · 06/01/2017 22:32

I love Claire Victoria - it's a good strong name.

I'm a Claire and to be honest don't have to spell it out too much. Go for it!

choccyfiend78 · 06/01/2017 22:34

I'm a Clare (spelt without the I!) and I agree that she will be forever correcting people on the spelling but if you go for the French version (Claire) then that is the more common way so less chance of error.

I have Suzanne as a middle name but also have a cousin who is Claire Louise

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/01/2017 22:44

I ❤️ the name Claire!!!! It is so classy and so much of a certain time I think it is due a comeback!! If I ever am blessed enough to have another little girl, I am going to name her Aoife Claire.

Mrsjudelaw66 · 06/01/2017 23:24

If I had another daughter she'd be a Claire or a Victoria.

Crazycatladyloz82 · 06/01/2017 23:55

Claire Louise?

1horatio · 06/01/2017 23:58

I really like Claire :) and Clara.
But DD is Clarissa nn Clary, so, I'm probably biased.

Imscarlet · 07/01/2017 00:02

I love Claire and considered it for DD. If I ever go again it will be on the shortlist. I wouldn't go for the Clare spelling as it is a county in Ireland. I think it's one of those names that suits a little girl very well but also translates into a good solid adult name.

PetalMettle · 07/01/2017 11:56

Yes I much prefer it with the I. Makes me think light Smile

reuset · 07/01/2017 18:01

Good choice. Clare would be my preferred spelling but Claire fine also. Clara is the fashionable choice at the moment of course. Top 100 I should think.

reuset · 07/01/2017 18:09

Clare and Clara original forms in UK.

Claire is the French form as someone mentioned. Very commonplace back in the day, along with the double named versions!

usedtobeboss · 07/01/2017 18:10

I'm a Claire, and rather like it now - and I don't remember feeling strongly either way about it as a child. I must have been at the beginning of the 'Claire trend' as I'm in my late 40s; I knew lots as a teenager but it didn't bother me.
I think it's classic and elegant, works well for all ages, isn't shorten-able, and is due for a comeback! I do have to spell it reasonably often, but I wouldn't say it bothers me.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/01/2017 14:06

I like Claire Victoria, it goes well with your other names OP.

Rinmybell · 11/01/2017 10:56

I don't like it as in Claire that rhymes with hair but I know a French family with a Claire and they say it more like clay-ah, which I think is lovely.
Perhaps a bit poncy if you're not French though?!

GreenTureen · 11/01/2017 12:45

It's very '80's' to me tbh.

It was one of the massively common names all through school with me. Everyone seemed to be a Claire/Clare/Joanne/Stacey. And everyone seemed to have the middle name Louise.

Not a fan sorry.

Mouseinahole · 13/01/2017 13:37

Claire Maria
Claire Francesca
Claire Sophia
Claire Imogen

Gspain · 13/01/2017 13:43

Probably being a child of the 80's where every other kid was Jillian, Jennifer, Victoria or Claire I'm not a fan of either TBH but ultimately the choice is yours and if you and hubby like it then go for it. Of my 3 kids someone had something to say on each name so I just ignored them. I like them and that's all that matters to me.

LittleIda · 13/01/2017 13:46

I really like Claire/Clare. I think it has a very pretty sound. I also like Sarah. There are two in dd's year at school. (Year 8.) Those are the ones I know of, could be more.

LittleIda · 13/01/2017 13:47

Two Clare/Claires in Year 8 i mean, not Sarahs.

LittleIda · 13/01/2017 13:48

Prefer Clare spelling.

LittleIda · 13/01/2017 13:52

I love Claire Marianne that someone called their baby. Copy that! Smile

INeedNewShoes · 13/01/2017 13:59

Claire is a lovely name but with her older sisters having more girly, flowery names with more syllables to play with, Claire might feel a bit hard done by.

If you were to call her something like Claire Marie or Claire Louise she could choose to run her first and middle name together for a unified-sounding fancier name made up of her first and middle name.

This is coming from someone whose first name is one syllable. I was always a bit sad about having no syllables to play with, no ways to shorten my name to a nickname. It basically gives me no option!

Waterfeature · 13/01/2017 17:37

I love Clare (but prefer that spelling to Claire).

HemanOrSheRa · 13/01/2017 17:40

Claire is a WONDERFUL name and all Claires are lovely people Wink.

twinklefoot · 13/01/2017 17:43

I have named my DC 60s 70s and 80s names like pp said there is smething solid and reliable about their names and the DC love their names! I would go with what you want.
