We've recently found out that we are having a baby girl! I love, love, love the name Claire. We think it's gorgeous, very French sounding and uncommon. Her name would be Claire Victoria. My husband is in love as am I but I wanted to ask your opinions on Claire Victoria. We won't do Victoria Claire because I don't like Vicky or Tori. Her older sisters are Olivia Beatrice and Madeline Laura. Do you think Olivia, Madeline and Claire go well together?

Claire Emilia, Claire Ariana and Claire Arabella are divine. Gorgeous!!!
Is Claire Arabella too posh though? Claire Ariana is beautiful, I love, love it!
Claire Emilia is stunning but I bet DH will overrule it because of Emilia Clarke Angry. I love Claire Anastasia too but he'd outrule that because of 50 Shades. Oooh, Claire Emilia. Or Claire Ariana. Or Claire Arabella.

Not too posh, just beautiful! Claire Emilia is my favourite- and I didn't make the Emilia Clarke connection, I just think it looks pretty as well as sounding nice. Lots to play with now and to pose to DH! She's going to have a beautiful name whatever you choose

How about Clary? A bit more unusual.
Claire is a bit 80s - I imagine her with a perm and shiny lipstick in Jackie magazine!!!!

AvaBird · 06/01/2017 19:24

Couldn't do Clary because in my head it's a nickname for Clarissa!

My name's Clare. I hate it, but I don't think many people like their own names, do they. However that said. Its certainly not the worse name in the world and it'll be very refreshing in
a class full of Rubys,Evies,Avas, Islas and Lily-Maes

Jooni · 06/01/2017 20:26

I think Claire's a nice choice. You love it, it's really recognisable and respectable without being at all popular now, and it goes well with big sisters' names. Claire Victoria sounds great.

Stonewash · 06/01/2017 20:50

Claire Victoria is a lovely name.

BattleaxeGalactica · 06/01/2017 21:00

Like it very much especially as it's not so used these days.

Every Claire I have known has been lovely (child of 70's).

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 06/01/2017 21:05

Yeap. Love it. Claire, Clare & even spelt Clair

JimbosJetSet · 06/01/2017 21:07

Both my DCs have names that were popular in the 70s/80s but that are barely used these days - I love that they have good solid sensible names that everyone has heard of, but that they are also not one of many in the class. And there is little danger of their names going out of fashion, because they are not in fashion in the first place Smile

Stingray2008 · 06/01/2017 21:10

Im clare elizabeth. Always been a bit sad i cant shorten my name bit seeing as my mum considered kylie it could have been worse!!

Acornantics · 06/01/2017 21:13

It's lovely, and different for this generation of babies, and classic.

Giddyaunt18 · 06/01/2017 22:10

Love it. My DD's middle name but spelled Clare.

stiffstink · 06/01/2017 22:14

Its lovely if you have an uplifting type of accent, but where I'm from its definitely Clurrrrrr.

kel12345 · 06/01/2017 22:15

I don't mind the name, but it's also my husbands exes name, and she's an awful woman (no I'm not just saying it cause she's his ex, as his other ex is a lovely woman, so I'm not just bitter).

Hulababy · 06/01/2017 22:19

Claire is much nicer than Clara and Clarissa. Through I am a little biased as it's my name.
Like every other '70s born girl my name is Claire Louise ;)

When growing up the only issue I had with my name was there being no way to shorten it. Being one of 4 in a class didn't really fuss me much and that wouldn't be an issue these days anyway.

Fwiw Claire is the way most people spell it so incorrect spellings are less likely. I don't like the Clair spelling but don't mind Clare. I do think those two will have more issues re spelling however.

I don't mind my name. I can see it having a come back in the future. I think it's used much more in the US in present times than the UK.

HalfStar · 06/01/2017 22:20

Claire was on the list for DC1! Wonderful choice IMO, it's graceful, poised, and interesting because it's unusual to hear it these days.

PetalMettle · 06/01/2017 22:21

I was going to say it's old fashioned but then hearing it with your other daughters' names I think It would be gorgeous.
Don't like clary, makes me think of Julian!
How about Claire Elise?

mewkins · 06/01/2017 22:24

I am another Claire (one of millions of my generation!) I take comfort in the fact that I am never too far from yet another Claire!

I know one little Claire. Go for it!

DeleteOrDecay · 06/01/2017 22:25

I don't like it personally, it's just not the sort of name I would choose for my dc.

MouldyPeach · 06/01/2017 22:26

I'm a Clare and I like my name, middle name is Marie which I used to hate telling people because of Marie Clare magazine but now I don't care. DH wanted to name dd3 Clare after me but she came out looking completely different Grin

Mottlemoth · 06/01/2017 22:27

My name is Clare and I'm not keen TBH. I feel it's quite dated now and is up there with Gemma and Sarah as a very 80s name. I also always, always have to spell my name to people. If I had £1 for every time I've had to say 'Clare without an i' I would have considerably more dosh in the bank than I do now! It's a small but persistent PITA.

As a previous poster pointed out, it also sounds dreadful in some accents. An ex colleague used to pronounce my name 'Cluuur'. Yuk.

Vebrithien · 06/01/2017 22:28

Dd is Claire Marianne, she was born on 11th August (her due day) which is St. Claire's day. Am a teacher, wanted something different and haven't taught any Claires in 10 years.

Mrsjudelaw66 · 06/01/2017 22:29

I love Clare without the i. I also love Victoria. Considered both for my second daughter but DH wouldn't agree. Go for it! Two beautiful names. I always wanted to be a Clare.
