Can't decide on a girls name

whirliebird · 05/01/2017 13:31

We're having trouble narrowing down our short list. This is baby no.4 (we have 2 girls and a boy already) and for the first time we actually have a boys name ready, we never struggle with girls names...except this time, ha ha! Any help/preferences/other suggestions appreciated :-)
So far we have:

Eilidh
Ellen
Violet
Alice
Seren

I really like Alice, Seren and Violet. I'm not sure how you pronounce Eilidh and I find Ellen a bit boring but still nice. Good luck!

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 05/01/2017 14:00

Meant to say actually I really love Seren. If it weren't for the fact I already have two beginning with S then Seren would be my top choice!

TWOBANANAS · 05/01/2017 14:00

Violet is beautiful

whirliebird · 05/01/2017 14:20

Thank you :-) Ellen is my least fav and I'm swithering between Eilidh (Ay-Lee) and Seren being my fav. My 2 girls have A names so I even thought on Ava (was on my list last time) but that's maybe too much? My boy has a J name but I can't think of any J names for girls I like :-/

Love Seren - I have three dds and would have loved to have used it but dh vetoed it every time!

SausageSoda · 05/01/2017 14:26

I really like Seren & Violet from your list. Ellen and Eilidh are my least favourites - don't like at all.

Sophronia · 05/01/2017 14:29

Ellen is my favourite, it's an underused classic.

reuset · 05/01/2017 14:45

Alice especially, then Violet. Both lovely.

AlwaysTeaTime · 05/01/2017 15:38

Eilidh is aboslutely gorgeous, one of my absolute favourite names, but depending on where you are pronunciation can be an issue. Also like seren but not as pretty IMO.

J names:
Juliet/Juliette
Julienne
Julianna
Jasmine
Jayden
Jessica
Jemima
Juno

Plus al the classic Joanne/Josephine/Judith etc....

Go for Eilidh!

whirliebird · 05/01/2017 15:57

Ooo, thank you for the J's @AlwaysTeaTime I'm in Scotland so pronunciation of Eilidh is no problem :-)

Elin? Welsh/Swedish variant on Ellen/Helen.

caffelatte100 · 05/01/2017 21:46

I think three girls all having an a name would be lovely!

1horatio · 05/01/2017 23:26

I like Alice, Seren and Eilidh.
Violet sounds very violent imo... and I don't like Ellen.

But Elin is simply gorgeous. It's also used in Scandinavia, btw :)

Pluto30 · 05/01/2017 23:34

Violet is my favourite, followed by Alice.

I don't like Ellen, and Eilidh makes me want to say "eyelid", even though I know it's not pronounced like that.

Seren is okay, but makes me think of Soren which is a popular boys name in Scandinavia.

HistoriaTrixie · 05/01/2017 23:45

Eilidh and Seren are both lovely! There's also Aisling and Rowan, if it's used for girls there (am in US). I know a couple of Rowans, both girls.

kel12345 · 05/01/2017 23:47

I like violet.
We were team yellow, and we found picking a boys name easy and were decided at 5 months. But I was in the birth centre in active labour in the pool and my husband and I were still debating a girls name (the 1 name I liked no one else did, even my husband). The midwife found it so funny than we were set on a boys name so early but still debating a girls name.

Yika · 05/01/2017 23:51

Ellen is my favourite by far.

A couple of J names:
Justine
June
Josephine
Josie
Joely
Joelle

ScarletSienna · 05/01/2017 23:56

I love Ellen! I know none yet it's a lovely classic.

whirliebird · 06/01/2017 05:58

I like the spelling 'Elin' too but apparently it's pronounced differently to 'Ellen'?

We've always been team yellow and always struggled with boys names...yet this time round we've had a boys name from day one, ha ha!
Thank you for all your suggestions so far, it really does help to get other people's opinions :-) xxx

Some places pronounce Elin as "Eeee-lin" and some pronounce it as "El-Lin"

Jooni · 06/01/2017 13:18

Ellen and Violet are beautiful.

I don't think you should worry about the initial - just pick a name you like. A, A, J, and S for example is really not a big deal.

How about:

Erin
Hazel
Merryn
Isobel
Elowen
Estelle

Branleuse · 06/01/2017 13:19

theyre all nice

Womble75 · 06/01/2017 13:23

Seren was one of my choices if DC2 was a girl. Also had :
Carys
Nia
Bethan

I'm expecting a boy so can't use them - boys are so much harder!

Cakingbad · 06/01/2017 13:23

I like all your names but Ellen is my favourite. Maybe because of Ellen Ripley. What about Sigourney?
