It would be William on the BC, but always goes by Billy, until old enough to decide (if he hates Billy).

Billy or Hayden?

I like Billy. Hayden is a little too American (unless you are American or like that sort of name!)

sunshinesoph155 · 26/12/2016 01:52

Plus William on certificate leaves lots of options

Pluto30 · 26/12/2016 02:47

Billy!

Love the name.

I'm not a fan of Hayden. He'll be lost in the sea of Jaydens/Kaydens/Aidans/Braydens/Zaydens etc. And all of those are starting to date already (were very popular 5-ish years ago, but less so now).

Sophronia · 26/12/2016 05:24

Definitely William/Billy!

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/12/2016 05:47

I don't totally understand the 'calling kids a NN' thing. We gave DD a name and it just turned into a shortened version. Billy is fine but friends, family, childcare may choose Will or whatever...

talkshowhost97 · 26/12/2016 06:20

Billy. By an absolute mile.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/12/2016 10:51

Bully, for sure.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/12/2016 10:52

😂😂😂 , oops ! Billy.

Lindy2 · 26/12/2016 10:54

I like both but William is probably my favourite. I like the nn Will.

thegirlinthecar · 26/12/2016 10:59

Going Against the grain here , Hayden ! I'm not a fan of the name Billy

raviolidreaming · 26/12/2016 11:30

Hayden is a little too American

Hayden is a traditional Welsh name.

RortyCrankle · 26/12/2016 11:32

William (Billy) is much nicer than Hayden

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 26/12/2016 11:33

Billy has sectarian connotations where I live, which is a shame because it's a nice name.
I would go with Haydon.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/12/2016 11:34

Hayden.

Dislike Billy.

Purplebluebird · 26/12/2016 11:34

I love Hayden :) Aiden was on our short list.

smellyboot · 26/12/2016 11:38

William gives loads of options. Billy, Bill, Will, William. Billy is cool. Not so sure re Hayden.

icecherry · 26/12/2016 13:39

Mrs - because Billy is the name I like... Would you just put that on the BC then?

icecherry · 26/12/2016 13:41

I also doubt other people will pick something else when he will be announced as 'Billy' - we have a Teddy in the family, who is Edward and he is always Teddy as he was announced with that name. I don't even think his friends know his full name!

MikeUniformMike · 26/12/2016 13:47

Hayden is a no. Same reasons as Pluto30. I wasn't aware of it being a Welsh name, but maybe it is. Another reason I wouldn't chose it is because it will be spelt Hayden, Haydn, Haydon, Aiden, Aidan...
Aidan is better.

William is good. Billy is OK.

Xmasbloat · 26/12/2016 13:49

Always loved the name William. And know a very nice and classy grown Bill. Hayden is like Jayden and Shayden etc. Not very classy imo.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/12/2016 18:16

Would you just put that on the BC then? God no. But William and then see what happens.

I have a friend whose very best friends call him Willy. His parents would never have chosen that! But it suits him.

Sophronia · 26/12/2016 21:06

Hayden is not a traditional Welsh name. It's an English surname meaning hay valley or hay hill.

raviolidreaming · 27/12/2016 10:07

As a Welsh name, Hayden means fire.

Anecdotally, I know Haydens into their 90s and my great uncle would be over 100 with the name if still alive, so it's certainly not a new and trendy name.

Babynamer0102 · 02/01/2017 21:01

Billy Smile

RobinSnood · 02/01/2017 21:55

I know a Hayden. He is a semi-posh guy in his early 30s I would guess. Utter twat and very sleezy. For that reason I would go with Billy.
