Would it be really awful to call him Robin?

DS is due in May, so still plenty of time to choose but the only name we both see to love is Robin.
Now there is of course nothing wrong with that name - it's lovely - but (as I've mentioned this before on here) DP's surname is Hood. Now DS will have some combination of both out surnames but ultimately he will have Hood in there. So my question is, is it setting him up for trouble calling him Robin? And if so what else can we call him??

How about a completely different bird like Falcon? Grin

girlelephant · 24/12/2016 10:47

I would say no

Jigglealltheway · 24/12/2016 13:22

Dislike this name. There is a Robin in the family and he is a full on knob.

Shallishanti · 24/12/2016 13:27

No, you really can't do that to him unless you plan to emigrate somewhere like China.

AlmaMartyr · 24/12/2016 13:33

No, you can't really. I know a Luke Walker too, and he does wish his parents hadn't gone with that (despite loving Star Wars).

MollyHuaCha · 24/12/2016 13:41

No. Your little Robin Hood would not thank you and as soon as he was old enough he wd change his name. There are hundreds of great alternatives. So get back to your baby and book!

I am going to let you off with the pregnancy hormone excuse for thinking that you could call your child Robin Hood... Smile

BikeRunSki · 24/12/2016 13:45

Ruben ?

AmeliaJack · 24/12/2016 13:45

I think Robin is a gorgeous name but you cannot use it with Hood.

There's a lovely girls name that becomes ridiculous with our surname. I'd always liked it but didn't use it. It's not fair to the person who has to live with it.

There are thousands of lovely names.

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2016 16:59

Absolutely no way.

throughgrittedteeth · 24/12/2016 19:53

Sorry for not coming back sooner.
You've all basically said what I suspected! Grin thanks for really confirming it though!

bayer I know there are all of the names in the world. What I meant is can you suggest some which are in a similar style. I feel like I've thought of every name and none are right at all. It's hard work this naming a human!

Christ, don't call him Ruben Hood. That's almost worse!

1horatio · 25/12/2016 11:34

Rupert Hood?

namesstress2323 · 25/12/2016 13:41

dont do it lol

MikeUniformMike · 25/12/2016 18:05

The name suggestions on this thread are all awful. Forget any name beginning with R. or forenames like Mark Alan Neil.

Suggest you give him a nice classic sensible first name that you quite like and call him Robin as a nn cos it's gonna happen.

FWIW I know 3 Robins (4 if you count the chirpy chappy in the garden). One is drop dead gorgeous, one is really nice, and the other (real name Robert but always called Robin) is a cun*.

SorenaJ · 26/12/2016 15:15

Just use your surname if you like Robin. Win win.

LuluJakey1 · 26/12/2016 15:20

What about Isaac? Jacob?
