Name for our DD?

LongLiveTheChief · 21/12/2016 21:56

DH and I are really struggling for names for our little girl, we have none that we like! We don't want family to know our choice so it's over to you guys!

DH has come home from work today and said he likes the name Tivy. I've never heard of it but I love it! We said we would like a name ending in 'y' or 'ie' so it fits that.

She would be Tivy Young....

What do you think? Xx

Not to my taste, but go with what you like!

LongLiveTheChief · 21/12/2016 22:05

Oh I just don't know. DH has said maybe it's to be spelt Tivvy? I really like it but worried that she's stuck with it for the rest of her life if we get it wrong :-( x

It sounds a bit like a name you've made up/misheard. That would be a problem for me, but maybe it's not for you if you're less keen on traditional names. I think she'll have a lifetime of "pardon?" and "how do you spell that?".

Blossomdeary · 21/12/2016 22:08

She might not thank you for it, even though you like it - a bit too much like TV I think.

ScruffyTheJanitor · 21/12/2016 22:09

I'd be very worried about any name that rhymes so easily with an insult.
But.... That's only really relevant for her school years.

SoftSheen · 21/12/2016 22:14

Tivy isn't a name. It might be a shortening of a longer name, perhaps Octavia?

As pp points out, Tivy rhymes with an insult, which might well cause problems at school.

SirNiallDementia · 21/12/2016 22:16

I've never heard of that name before. I think she'll be forever spelling out and repeating her name as it's so unusual!

I've just googled s it and it looks like Tiverton in Devon is known as Tivvy. Think that might put me off tbh.

SarahOoo · 21/12/2016 22:24

I've always been sure I'd find it impossible to name my child. Being a child of the 80s and being called Sarah I wanted something very unique....my husband suggested 'Charlotte' and 'Lottie' for short and somehow I liked it and that's what we are going for!

I'm not sure I like Tivvy/Tivy though. Just some ideas I had on my list that may help.....

There is a river Teifi in West Wales and my cousin has Teifi as her middle name, so she is Anne Teifi. It is pronounced Tivy.

JudgeJudySheidlin · 21/12/2016 22:47

How is the name pronounced?

If I've guessed the pronunciation right
Tivy/Tivvy is quite pretty sounding. So what if it's not a 'real' name? I like it & I've got an unusual name that nobody ever pronounces or spells correctly!

SarcasmMode · 21/12/2016 23:15

I just think of Tiverton.

Same surname as us :)

How about Livvy?

Buttercupsandaisies · 21/12/2016 23:18

I just think of divvy sorry!

MollyHuaCha · 21/12/2016 23:18

Sorry, I don't know any insults that rhyme with Tivy.

Buttercupsandaisies · 21/12/2016 23:33

Milky I think they mean tivvy=divvy

Buttercupsandaisies · 21/12/2016 23:33

Milky = Molly

Nospringflower · 21/12/2016 23:37

If you like it go for it but it sounds made up to me and therefore i'm not keen.

1horatio · 21/12/2016 23:45

Is young your last name or...?

I do agree with a previous poster, it does sound like TV, tbh.

A name that end in -ie/y?
Lorrie, Lottie, Abbie, Cassie, Katie, Allie, Bernie, Heidi, Lizzie, Addie, Farlie/Farley, Hattie, Heddie, Annie, Jamie, Amy, Izzie, Lily, Lucie?

Ah, I had though Tivy was pronounced with an 'eye' sound. Yes, I see now. Not that keen on Tivy or Tivvy . Sounds made up, so sorry. Xmas Hmm

ladybird69 · 22/12/2016 01:22

I've always had a handful of names to choose from and then during the first couple of weeks we choose which name suits the baby the best. We've always been congratulated on our children's lovely names and how much they suit them. You've got 6 weeks to register them so no hurry. I love my children's names and they like them too, that makes me happy 😂

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/12/2016 10:58

How about Olivia (Livi)
Vivienne (Vivi)

Talcott2007 · 22/12/2016 11:05

Tevy - pronounced 'Teh-vee' is a real name - it's Cambodian and I believe means angelic or angel. I know a 10yr old Tevy in RL

Talcott2007 · 22/12/2016 11:07

I also know a Tegan 'Tee-gan' who goes by Tiggy

Barefootcontessa84 · 22/12/2016 14:05

I know an Octavia that goes by Tivvy - it's awful in real life. Shortened to Tiv, so people nicknamed her Div/Spiv etc (you get the picture).
