I love the name Javier especially the nickname of javi, but a little concerned about other people's pronunciation issues, should I go ahead anyway and just keep referring loudly to Javier bardem to anyone who has issues 😀

I know a javier from southern CA who is "hav-ee-air"

So perhaps officially documentation as Javier but nickname spoken and written as havi to help avoid confusion

Slightly off-course, but for the pp questioning whether it was French or Spanish, surely the French is Xavier?

I think writing 'havi' will make you look a bit dim OP.

Javier is a legitimate name and Javi is a legitimate shortening. So just use it. Others will catch on.

Nooo! Dont call him Havi!
To clarify, I would pronounce both Javier and Javi correctly once I'd heard you say them. There would be no need to say, 'This is Javier, known as Javi,' because I would have heard you say 'Havi'. I just meant that if I saw Javi written down before I'd heard it, I would say Jav-ee. Soon corrected.

I have taught boys called Javier-pronounced Hav-i-air but also an Indian boy called Javi pronounced as it looks with the j, so if I saw the nickname written, I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the name Javier.
