First baby, DH won't agree on anything apart from Alice... I don't love it but I'll use it. I tried to compromise by nick naming her Alice and having Alison on the birth cert. Not an option apparently.

I wanted Lydia so badly Angry

Anywhooo, what about middle names? Things I've considered are

Helen (my Mum's name)

Posy (love it, loved the book as a child. Thanks to the other OP)

Diana

Delphine

Athen

Any ideas? What do you think of them?

Alice is awful - ' a lice'

Athena Helena
Delphina(delphi) Helena

If your dh approves of song names there's a truly terrible song with Lydia

But a great one with Alison

I see you have Diana and Athena - I also know an Athene. My favourite Ancient Greek name is Ariadne.

MyKingdomForBrie · 15/12/2016 21:33

Delphine is the only one that works with Alice.

But I don't really like any of them

ViewBasket · 15/12/2016 22:14

Diana is a lovely name, underused but classic. It would be refreshing to hear of a baby Diana!

I find Alice rather stuffy TBH.

Diana Lucy
Diana Juliet
Diana Penelope
Diana Zoe
Diana Beatrice
Diana Coralie
Diana Willow
Diana Charlotte

Lydia is lovely! Alice is nice. Not a fan of Alison.

Helen: I love this name!

Posy: nice.

Diana: very nice.

Delphine: it's nice,

Athen: prefer Athene or Athena.

Alice Diana Helene?
Alice Helene Diana? Lovely names and naming her after your mother and grandmother is a lovely idea.

StarUtopia · 15/12/2016 22:31

Helen is lovely .

Please. No to Lydia. Agree with others. Clamydia. Know of two girls who had this ALL the way through high school. Please don't do this!

However.

DH won't listen? Is he pushing first baby out of his foo foo? Sorry, but this is bs. The mother gets final say imo. You have to love their name. You're their mum!

User1987654 · 15/12/2016 22:45

Alice is much nicer than Allison. Allie/ Lissy are lovely nicknames imo. Perhaps he would like Alyssia as well?

I like Alice Lydia. If you want one of the other middle names, I'd strongly suggest two middle names as the names on your list don't flow that well with Alice. However Alice Josephine would be lovely and you could still call her Posy as a nickname.

harrietm87 · 16/12/2016 09:59

Shame you don't like Alice - I think it's
a great name! Of your others I love
Helen and Diana - classic and cool, not overused these days but everyone will be able to spell, and lovely links to your family.

Hushabyelullaby · 16/12/2016 11:31

whenever I have a conversation with (some) people around my age (41) and mention the word Alice, I invariably hear 'who the fuck is Alice?'. Smokie (who covered the song), has a lot to answer for! That said, I would like the name if it wasn't for this.

Rainatnight · 16/12/2016 14:15

Good you're getting your option back on the table.

Funnily, my DP loves, loves Lydia and I'm not keen. (Also think 'slutty one from Pride and Prejudice, like a PP).

We could swap? Grin

As you're Spanish, what about Alicia?

GeorgeTheThird · 16/12/2016 14:22

Alice and Diana are both nice. If you bode your time you might find DH softens after he see the emotion and your epic struggle in the birth.

Softly softly catchee monkey 😄

GeorgeTheThird · 16/12/2016 14:22

Bide
Bloody autocorrect

Christine88 · 16/12/2016 14:26

I suggested Lydia to my husband and he snorted and said there was a girl at school called Lydia and they all called her chlamydia Lydia!! Put me right off!

Alice is very cutesy and pretty Alison seems quite harsh and bossy.

I really like Helen as the middle name, it's meaningful and goes nicely with Alice.

PeteSwotatoes · 16/12/2016 14:53

My hamster is Artemis, therefore you should name your baby after her Grin

HormonalChicken · 17/12/2016 10:38

I like Alison, but prefer the Allison nn Ally spelling from 'The Notebook'

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 17/12/2016 14:14

Enough of this nonsense that your DH refuses to entertain any name other than Alice. Glad you've had a word with him. Diana is lovely, FAR nicer than boring Alice.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 17/12/2016 14:14

And I also think Alison is nicer than Alice.

Yoarchie · 17/12/2016 14:21

Alice is a great name.
I don't like any of your others very much, of them Lydia is best.
You could consider Lucy, Lara, Lily if you like Alice. My brain seems to have got stuck with L names Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2016 12:31

Love Posy. I really wanted it for one of my two girls, but dp was having none of it.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 18/12/2016 12:40

I don't like Alice but do like Lissy as a nn (though that is prob Melissa)
I do like Alicia, Alise and Elise though.
I like Lydia very much. Sorry, that doesn't help you.

Like Helena rather than Helen.
Not keen on Posy at all.
Diana, nope, too Crown
Athen is interesting but not with Alice

So not helpful. Sorry.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 18/12/2016 12:46

But I would say you both have to compromise. So:
If you have to give up Lydia he has to give up Alice.
You will end up with a name you are both just okay with but both don't love but that's the compromise.
I gave up Joshua and Hugo. Partner gave up David and Max. Ended up with a ubiquitous but compromise name.

DarkBlueEyes · 18/12/2016 12:47

"hot iron of judginess!" made me laugh thank you!

I love Alice, it's gorgeous and classic. I also love Posy - but not sure if it befits the next Prime Minister so could you find something else that you could then have Posy for short? Like gasp Persephone but not that is it's a bit pretentious! Pandora maybe? Although as a middle name Posy is fabulous.

Lydia....dustbin (as has been said)
Diana - too old fashioned, ditto Helen but Helena is nice.
Athen - eh? How about Athena?

Hope you are closer to a decision!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2016 12:52

Love Alice.

Hate Diana and Athen/a.
