First baby, DH won't agree on anything apart from Alice... I don't love it but I'll use it. I tried to compromise by nick naming her Alice and having Alison on the birth cert. Not an option apparently.

I wanted Lydia so badly Angry

Anywhooo, what about middle names? Things I've considered are

Helen (my Mum's name)

Posy (love it, loved the book as a child. Thanks to the other OP)

Diana

Delphine

Athen

Any ideas? What do you think of them?

Totally biased but Alice is a lovely, timeless name. Whoever said it's a bit meh, that's so far from my DD it's untrue!!

Gene9 · 15/12/2016 09:58

Thank you lovely lot!

The thing with DH is that I did say 'okay, we'll settle for Alice' because I wanted a name settled but then I tried to change my mind and he wasn't having any of it really - have gone down the root of suggesting other names for him to like but he just makes a face at all of them Sad

Really don't want Alice now. Plus there's a glamour model named the same with our surname too.

After this post I'm really wanting Diana as a first name. Hope no one sees me as an over keen Royalist Grin it's my Grandmother's name!

Helena maybe too

Liked to sound of Artemis that someone mentioned. How is that pronounced? Thought it was a boys name...

There's a girl in DDs school called Delphia. Maybe an alternative to Delphine?

liquidrevolution · 15/12/2016 10:03

I dont think a baby should be named something that one parent loves and the other parent hates.

you must find another name that you both like. This is how we chose DDs name. I wanted one name, DH another. We reeled off names until we found one that we both liked. Actually it suits her better than the name either of us preferred.

FWIW - I am an Alison and hate it with a passion. Cant stand Lydia either. Isnt there a song about Lydia the tattooed lady?

FinnegansCake · 15/12/2016 10:08

Lydia=Chlamydia Confused - would never have occurred to me, and I know a couple of lovely young Lydia's.
I certainly wouldn't let it put me off what a beautiful name.

MrsHathaway · 15/12/2016 10:11

I think Artemis is the Greek where Diana is Roman - same goddess from different traditions. It isn't a male name but I agree it sounds masculine.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2016 10:14

I love Alice Posy, but Alice Helen, or Diana, sound lovely.

KissinKate · 15/12/2016 10:27

Yuck, Alison. Lydia I do like, but it reminds me of the slutty one from Pride and Prejudice.

JosephineMaynard · 15/12/2016 10:37

Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt. Essentially the Ancient Greek version of the Roman goddess Diana. So a female name , yes.

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2016 10:42

Helen.

Shortened to Nell.

Problem solved!

Satisfactorylemon · 15/12/2016 10:48

Fine I'll say it then.

LTB. Grin

VilootShesCute · 15/12/2016 10:51

I'm really sorry to say this but Lydia makes me think of labia. Diana is nice though!

Gene9 · 15/12/2016 10:58

Can't LTB Grin I love him! Just a pain with these names

Fridgedooropen · 15/12/2016 11:04

So you have to tell him that he knows you were never that sure about Alice, and now you've decided just like he decided with Lydia that you definitely don't like it. Therefore it's back to the drawing board. And you're not going to just accept Alice if he makes a face at all other suggestions because like Lydia, it's now off the table. Both of you get a veto.

MikeUniformMike · 15/12/2016 11:21

Alice - great
Alison - so dated
Alicia - pronounced Alisha, Aleesha or Alissia?
Lydia - Lyds? Yuk.
Helen (my Mum's name) - perfect
Posy - cute but a bit twee
Diana - great
Delphine - no
Athen - odd boy's name. Athena is better.

Gene9 · 15/12/2016 11:24

Fridge And what if my baby is here and he still won't budge on names?

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2016 12:09

Gene, you have as much right as him !
Why not pick your very favourite name, when you decide, write it out half a dozen times, do the same with Alice, and put them in a hat.
Let him pick the name out !

EvenTheWind · 15/12/2016 12:41

Art-ee-muss is how I would say it.

He is pulling a face not because he hates every other name but because he wants Alice so why not stonewall you?

EvenTheWind · 15/12/2016 12:42

Tell him you do not like Alice and so he really needs to open his mind to other things. Even if you start with "what's the best from this list of 3" otherwise he is comparing every name you say with Alice!

Nina?

Laura?

Gene9 · 15/12/2016 12:50

Suppose you're right - decided I'm not having Alice now so he can pull faces at other names all he likes. I do wonder though what I'll do if he won't agree on anything

I don't like Nina, reminds me of that brilliant bodies programme on CBeebies

Dislike Laura, use to work with one with a constant nasally voice. Really annoying

Irontheshirts · 15/12/2016 12:51

I waited until half way through labour to finally agree on a name. My DDH changed to my way of thinking. I wasn't going to push her out until he did.

No chance then of baby being here and not agreeing.

Gene9 · 15/12/2016 12:54

Brilliant idea Iron GrinCakeWineFlowers

Ilovewillow · 15/12/2016 12:58

I like Alice but love Lydia (reminds me of the character in Beetlejuice). I also love Posy, our son was going to be called Posy Florence.

Delphine is lovely but the soddin peppa pig donkey has ruined it for me!

Helen is lovely too!

GinIsIn · 15/12/2016 13:02

Alison is horrible - sorry! I don't think any of those are the name if you can't both agree.

Personally I love the name Alice but if you don't, your DH is just going to have to get over it.

I think you should both keep looking.

raeray · 15/12/2016 13:03

How about Daphne? Not sure why but it sprung to mind when reading your list.
