Alfred - opinions?

Alfred with Alf or Fred/freddie as nickname.

Has always been my husbands choice. I am more keen on Edward. I have to admit though, Alfred is growing on me!! Middle name will be Francis...

Francis is the nicest suggestion imo - lovely name!

I'm not keen on Alfie or Freddie. Edward is ok but a little dull imo.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/12/2016 21:45

I'm not keen. TBH. Also there's too many f sounds in Alfred Francis.
Francis Alfred sounds better.
Sorry to be negative

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/12/2016 21:46

Francis Edward just rolls of the tongue.

Pipilangstrumpf · 14/12/2016 21:46

Francis Edward is lovely.

ps2304 · 14/12/2016 21:53

We are not keen on frankie or frank as main nickname... unless there are others?

Why would you shorten Francis to Frankie or Frank? Francis is a lovely name that is said easily. Lovely choice imo.

ps2304 · 14/12/2016 22:37

Another contender is Frederick

But for family middle name reasons would either be Geoffrey, Francis or peter

Love Alfred and NN mentioned

pensivepolly · 14/12/2016 22:38

I love Alfred - no nicknames though

nooka · 14/12/2016 23:27

I have an almost grown up Alfred, it's a great name :) He is mostly known as Alfie though, sometimes Alf, but never Fred or Freddie. Works with all your middle names I think. How about Edwin or Edmund (seems as if you and your dh both like Old English names).

Sophronia · 14/12/2016 23:58

I really like Alfred

sonlypuppyfat · 15/12/2016 06:05

Not keen on old man names at all, but I do like Peter

Satisfactorylemon · 15/12/2016 06:06

Alfred is nice but I'd link it to Alfie. Alf is awful. Like elf.

ImSoUnoriginal · 15/12/2016 08:26

I really like Alfred and all nicknames. I disagree with the poster above and prefer Alfred Francis to the other way round.
I obviously like these types of names though as one of my boys middle names is Ernest, after his great grandpa.
They might be seen as old man names now but they are having a resurgence so will be seen as current soon. Just imagine, in 10-20 years time, names like Kevin and Jason will be seen as old man names. Grin

Love. Expecting DD3 in two weeks, but if she turns out not to be a DD after all he'll be Alfred Clive (and we'll call him Fred).

1horatio · 15/12/2016 13:41

Alfred is gorgeous.

Not a fan of Edward. There already seem to be sooo many...

Staranise123 · 15/12/2016 13:53

Alfred is ok but I don't like Alf/Alfie. I also find that Alfred Francis isn't the best combination with the repeating fr sound. But then Alfred Edward has the ed running into each other... So maybe Frances Edward?
