I was known as Effy as a child and Margot is on my list for this pregnancy so I'm fond of both! As a full name, Margot is my favourite, but I adore Effie as a nn for something else.

Agree with ops - Margot is definitely best. And prefer Margo to Effie.

According to the OP's other thread it's not short for anything.

This is the 3rd thread in a few days asking about Effie. Looks like in 5 years. The class will be full of little Effies.

Yeah they are both awful but margot slightly better as it's at least a proper name.

Effie usually short for Euphemia in Scotland, but it's a proper old lady name.
