What's the MN verdict on the name Brendan for a boy? Is it old fashioned (and not in a good way)? We live in Scotland. DH has irish roots.

I really like it, I wouldn't describe it as old-fashioned at all.

Gruffalosfriend · 07/12/2016 13:50

Good solid name.

badtasteflump · 07/12/2016 13:51

Really like it Smile

Would have used it myself but it was clunky with our surname...

MaisieDotes · 07/12/2016 13:53

I'm Irish. It's a little bit staid but actually it's due a revival.

I like Bren for short, too.

HoratioNightboy · 07/12/2016 13:54

Sorry that this is a negative response, but I've never found it an attractive name. Nowadays it instantly brings to mind an image of the bloke in Mr.s Brown's Boys, and that makes me shudder.

Helsinkimorning · 07/12/2016 13:59

Nice

thegirlinthecar · 07/12/2016 14:00

I like it and I love the nn Bren. I suggested it for ds but dh really doesn't like it

lalaland1985 · 07/12/2016 14:25

Don't apologise nightboy! Luckily we don't all have the same taste Smile

👍

Like it

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2016 20:29

I like it a lot.

I think it's quite odd that I really like Brendan for a boy, but the girls' name Brenda gives me the shudders!

KoalaDownUnder · 08/12/2016 03:38

Oooh, no. I don't like it at all.

It's very Bradley/Bruce/Darren to my ears. Naff 1970s/1980s names. Also, no good nicknames ('Bren' sounds like a woman).

Strokethefurrywall · 08/12/2016 04:04

Love it, also love Brandon.

Idodo · 08/12/2016 05:35

No too old fashioned. Really bad even for a man in his 50s let alone a small child.

lalaland1985 · 08/12/2016 10:37

I think I love it! There were only 10 boys named Brendan last year in the whole of Scotland!

Yup also seems a bit 80s baffled to my ears too. But looks like it has a lot of love! I do REALLY like Bren though, never thought of that.

JinCa · 09/12/2016 06:09

*naff not baffled😄

MiriAmmerman · 09/12/2016 15:03

I like it - I've only ever met one, and he is a very intelligent and handsome 30-something, so very positive associations. I know it's an Irish name, but the one I know doesn't have Irish roots - he was named after the long distance runner Brendan Foster (another positive association imo).
The one I know is called Bren by almost everyone.
