Is Haydn/Hayden 'chavvy'?

We love Haydn/Hayden, but is it seen as 'chavvy'? I don't want people to judge his name on the school register, etc.

He would be Haydn/Hayden Alexander.

Thanks.

Yes, very chavvy. Sorry.

Hamish is similar. Not at all chavvy!

marl · 06/12/2016 20:35

Yes, I think so.

janejones1 · 06/12/2016 20:36

Damn Sad Joseph Haydn was great!

I don't think it's chavvy at all. I prefer it with an 'e' though.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 06/12/2016 20:37

It's a bit chavvy but it's still I good name. I think it has a lovely sound to it and I would use it anyway.

janejones1 · 06/12/2016 20:37

Yeah, I put Haydn as that was the original (I believe?)

Joseph is okay with Haydn as a MN, but. On its own Haydn is very chavvy

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2016 20:38

Aidan?

namesstress2323 · 06/12/2016 20:38

not at all, hayden is nicer tho, haydn looks a bit like a typo imo

janejones1 · 06/12/2016 20:39

Sorry, I mean Joseph Haydn, the composer - where the name came from? (I believe)

Inadither · 06/12/2016 20:39

Yes

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2016 20:41

babyspider I think the OP meant that the composer Joseph Haydn was great.

I'd pronounce Haydn (Hi Dun) and Hayden (Hay Den) differently.

TwoGunslingers · 06/12/2016 20:41

A know a Haiden and he's adorable. Not considered chavvy here Smile

HeddaGabbler · 06/12/2016 20:41

But the composers name is pronounced 'hi-den', not 'hay-den'.

fulltothebrimwithloveliness · 06/12/2016 20:41

I would class it in the same bracket as Jayden, Kayden etc as they sound so similar and all sound quite chavvy to me, sorry. I don't agree that anything than Oliver etc is seen as chavvy though, there are plenty of nice non classic names too that aren't chavvy. I have a feeling someone will be along soon to tell us to stop using the word chavvy as its seen as very derogatory, but I can't think of any other way to describe it really.

janejones1 · 06/12/2016 20:42

I know it's pronounced differently Smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/12/2016 20:42

The composer is pronounced Hi-den, not Hay-den though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/12/2016 20:43

Sorry, x-post. How would you pronounce it? Differently depending on the spelling you choose?

PatMullins · 06/12/2016 20:43

I don't like it, although I do know a Haydn in his 80's!

janejones1 · 06/12/2016 20:44

I think so Smile

Haydn (like the composer) would be pretentious and would often be pronounced hayden, which is chavvy.
