Is Haydn/Hayden 'chavvy'?

We love Haydn/Hayden, but is it seen as 'chavvy'? I don't want people to judge his name on the school register, etc.

He would be Haydn/Hayden Alexander.

Thanks.

Yes, sorry!

MiniMaxi · 07/12/2016 01:07

If you like the name you should use it.

Makes me think of Hayden Christiansen (but don't let his dubious acting put you off Wink)

(Talking of actors, also Hayden Pannetiere who is female but I do think most people would consider it a boys' name)

Alternatively could be Alexander Hayden / Haydn?

lemonpoppyseed · 07/12/2016 01:10

What about Holden as an alternative?

icantgetnosleep5 · 07/12/2016 04:47

YES! ( sorry )

GreatFuckability · 07/12/2016 06:03

My great uncle was named Haydn after the composer (my great grandfather was Mendelsohn) they were the opposite of chavvy. (snobs in fact 😂)

Redbookworm · 07/12/2016 06:34

I have a Hayden! I've never considered myself a chav but have I been kidding myself all these years? ( he will be 13 on Sunday) What are the criteria for being a chav? Confused

Glitterspy · 07/12/2016 08:34

Hayden, Holden, Harley. All on the chav side sorry

Vixxfacee · 07/12/2016 08:36

Hayden isn't 'chavvy'. Very offensive. Mn isn't the real world when it comes to baby names. I wouldn't pay attention! Someone suggested Hamish - seriously?

I know a 12yo Hamish and a baby Hamish, so yes, seriously Hmm

Must depend where in the country you're from but round here Haydn is on a par with Tyler, Mason, Finn...all those kind of names

Vixxfacee · 07/12/2016 08:43

Where in the country are you? What do you mean ' those kinds of names '. Are you Katie Hopkins by any chance?

TheLivingAsheth · 07/12/2016 08:46

Of course it's not Chavvy (my tablet won't let me write that without a capital). Ignore all these people who are showing their ignorance. Even if you think Jayden and Kayden are Chavvy, presumably because you think they are made up names, Hayden is a traditional name. I had a Welsh teacher at school called Haydn (first name) who would be about 60 now and I know a 40 year old called Hayden also.

TheLivingAsheth · 07/12/2016 08:47

Sorry, when I say you, I don't mean you, OP! I mean other people.

Glitterspy · 07/12/2016 08:48

Haha Vixx, the south. 'All those' names - what I meant was, in my head, names have always been grouped:

Elaine Beverly Sylvia Keith Alan Neil

Claire Sarah Helen Thomas Ben William

Hayden Harley Mason Lily-Mae Darcy Beau

That's what I meant, I guess it's an idiosyncrasy of mine. I'm not Katie Hopkins no.

BabyGanoush · 07/12/2016 08:50

I think it could start a new wave in names!

Kids called Mozart (Mo) and Rachmaninov (Rav) to follow!

I imagine there are arseholes out there that would turn their ugly noses up at it and call it chavvy.

But who gives a fuck about them? Smile

If you like it, use it.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 07/12/2016 09:04

I went to school with a Hayden. He was a lovely, not chavvy lad.

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 07/12/2016 09:11

I'm not convinced it's a chavvy name, so no

I don't like it very much though

I'm with usual.

I've never understood these baby name threads. If you like a name, use it.

Surely to God, no-one is crass enough in real life to judge a child or parent on their choice of name?

I like both names, FWIW. Not that my opinion should matter to you.

raviolidreaming · 07/12/2016 10:08

I would class it in the same bracket as Jayden, Kayden etc

I absolutely wouldn't class it the same. Hayden is a traditional Welsh name. My great uncle was a Hayden, and he'd be about 100 now if he was still alive so it certainly isn't a new name!

Who cares what people on mumsnet think if you love the name?

raviolidreaming · 07/12/2016 13:25

Who cares what people on mumsnet think if you love the name?

Absolutely! Some of the suggestions on here can me ludicrous.

OP: We really like Lacey for a girl
Poster: What about Ptolemy or Harriet?

OP: We have decided on Ewan
Poster: What about Bartholomew on the birth certificate so he has options?

OP: We are naming the baby Amy having a deceased relative. It is also a name that has been in our family for generations.
Poster: It's a terrible name. Clara.
