I don't watch much TV, so didn't watch this program. Really gutted.

He's 8 months, but no one has really ever said anything. I've had a few "oh, like..." but I've just smiled, thinking "who?" and just got on with my day.

Would you change it?

There was a (now sadly departed) chemistry teacher in Perth called Norman Conquest! Grin

I have no idea what his parents were thinking but he did name his dog Hastings!

(Here is a link to the textbooks he wrote in case anyone thinks this is just an urban myth:

When I got married I took my Dh's last name and although I knew there was a somewhat famous singer (USA jazz-folk type of singer) with the same name, I wasn't prepared for how many people would mention it. There were a few embarrassing occasions when I made restaurant reservations in my name at some very "nice" places only to encounter confusion and disappointment from the restaurant staff when I showed up, obviously very boring and unfamous... :)

MadisonAvenue · 03/12/2016 21:33

My husband has the same name as a prominent Labour MP and hearing his name on the news always stops me in my tracks.

JaimeLannister · 03/12/2016 21:33

Fuckityhi Which marvel superhero? Steve Rogers? Peter Parker?

OP I think Louis Walsh is a pretty famous person but won't be for your DS and his peers. His teachers may look twice at his name though.

Louis Walsh is pretty famous where I am but I'm Irish...is he mainly known for X factor in U.K.?

Trying to figure out boyband/dj...

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/12/2016 21:37

I worked with a John Lennon

NataliaOsipova · 03/12/2016 21:40

Who is Louis Walsh? (off to Google....!)

LottieDoubtie · 03/12/2016 21:41

Louis Walsh must be a reasonably common name in Ireland surely?

My DS has a famous person name (although we use a different nickname). Literally 2 people have mentioned it- a nurse who pissed herself laughing Hmm and a colleague who I consider a twat at the best of times.

shrug ours is a talented and inoffensive minor celebrity so I don't care!

Louis Walsh is pretty inoffensive too if you don't count the Lenny Henry comment...

Binkybix · 03/12/2016 21:46

I went to school with a Frances Drake.
Her parents clearly HAD to have known. There was a fair bit of stick, poor thing

I also know a Frances Drake!

weegiemum · 03/12/2016 21:48

Aw no, Mr Conquest died! I went to that school!

cheweduprope · 03/12/2016 22:05

It's fine. The only way I'd ever be worried about this is if it was a huge celebrity with a very distinct name and a negative public image. Something like Donald Trump, for instance. But Louis Walsh is none of those things.

sufferingicecakes · 03/12/2016 22:53

My GP is Dr Andrew Murray - bizarrely, I can never remember his name when I need to make an appointment!

Artandco · 03/12/2016 22:59

Never heard of Louis Walsh until this thread either. So I wouldn't assume most people have, maybe just a few people

HeadFullofSteam · 03/12/2016 23:00

Countess Perth Academy?

PhilODox · 03/12/2016 23:01

I've known a few "Michael Jackson"s over the years. And a Liz Windsor Grin

Suburbopolis · 03/12/2016 23:08

I know a Michael Jackson as well!

I have met a Catherine Hamnett and a Richard Reid in the last few days.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 03/12/2016 23:08

Oh I hope no one calls him lulu at school

What?

My son used to be at primary school with a Louis Walsh. He is 19/20 so named before the other one was well known in this country. He moved to the school aged 10 when X-Factor had been going a couple of years, there was some mild amusement about his name at first, but nothing much was said.

Haffdonga · 03/12/2016 23:08

I'm sorry but the other Louis Walsh is very very famous at the moment. I would expect those who haven't heard of him in the UK would be the small minority. Even my non British dh who doesn't ever watch popular TV knows him

But so the fuck what? It's a lovely name and your Louis is a baby with his own name. The other Louis is already beyond retirement age. By the time your Louis gets to teenagehood the other Louis will be in his retirement home and everyone will have forgotten all about him.

Enjoy your lovely Louis with his lovely name. Thanks

Suburbopolis · 03/12/2016 23:10

Louis Walsh is a nice name I think.

JustSpeakSense · 03/12/2016 23:12

By the time he grows up, the famous one won't be in the spotlight anymore, don't worry about it.

It's a great name!

FairNotFair · 03/12/2016 23:13

I had an orthodontist called Gordon Bennett.

mudandmayhem01 · 03/12/2016 23:13

I think there is man who writes about beer in one of the Sunday papers called Michael Jackson, it is such an ordinary name, not surprising names get repeated, I am sure his family and friends never associate him with other MJ.

DesolateWaist · 03/12/2016 23:15

My aunt was at medical school with Donald Duck (born before the cartoon character was invented)

What? Before 1934?

Milkand2sugarsplease · 03/12/2016 23:16

I think you're fine OP!

If it's any consolation my DH and DS are much worse off and I didn't realise til DS was about 3 days old, by which point I thought he suited his name so just left it. Grin
