Loving these name threads but I am still really stuck Confused

Would love a good name book but not sure which ones? I have had a look at a few but 90-95% of the names were not really us and have loads of names common to the USA.

I have the penguin book of baby names which is good but would like a few more (cant find the 'one' yet) any recommendations?

Thanks!

I think you'd get more variation and more up to date choices if you were to look on baby name websites nowadays rather than books. You can scroll alphabetically just as you can in books. Can only think of nameberry but am sure google would point you in the direction of more.

I went on eBay and bought a copy of the 1945 Oxford English Dictionary of Christian Names (or something like that). It has a heap of interesting names along with some quite witty descriptions of where and with whom they originate.

OP my SIL got me this book. It's sounds daft and poserish and it's not at all and I found it really helpful!

Ha - love the front cover of that book! Grin

I think that's the one we had, some pretty American names in it but it also tells it like it is

We had a book last time that i picked up at a nearly new sale. It was useless! It was about a third native American names which were unpronounceable, a third eastern European and the remaining third 'normal' names which you'd probably have known anyway. One book (may have been the same one) also had Adolf listed (each name had a bit of description about what it means, where it came from etc) but without any comment that you may not wish to name your child after Hitler!

We went through the Ons list last time. Yes, all of it.... I've started again this time, can't believe what some people name their offspring. (And it's not just one person, as they only publish names with at least three exact instances including spelling.)

Thanks everyone!
Downloaded a couple of apps but I just love lying with a real book and a cuppa :)

Defo getting the suggested one purely for the cover - love it!
