Clara or Greta?

Which one do you like more?
Clara or Greta?
Clara keep thinking about, in our list for a while. Greta a new idea, but someone I know only at work used it. But I find it sweet. Clara we will pronounce like Tara and Greta with e as in men and a soft t in ta. Will either work in the UK? We are not German btw, though one of DH's ansestors was German. Our last name is a Spanish one.

They are both really lovely names.

Pluto30 · 01/12/2016 05:58

Greta.

The only issue with it, that I can find, is that people will pronounce it Gredda when speaking quickly. But I do love the name.

It still has Greta Garbo associations, unlike Ava which has lost its Ava Gardner association due to its popularity over the last 10 years.

Clara as prettier & I would only pronounce that way.

PlugUgly · 01/12/2016 06:01

Clara, much prettier sound

I love them both, but were vetoed by DH. I very slightly prefer Clara. Both pretty and unusual names though

MackerelOfFact · 01/12/2016 06:13

Clara is beautiful. Greta makes me think of a gnarly old witch!

Clara sounds normal/softer letter wise but is slightly boring. Greta is my favourite though. It's not rare and obvious to pronounce. It makes me think of black and white film stars.

EvenTheWind · 01/12/2016 06:45

Both nice.

Clara goes better with a Spanish surname, I think.

KoalaDownUnder · 01/12/2016 06:47

Greta.

Clara is objectively 'prettier', but I think it's becoming the new Ava/Ella/Evie.

Greta is more quirky-cool.

rainbow99 · 01/12/2016 07:38

Clara is lovely, Greta sounds / looks really ugly to me

Jemimapuddleduk · 01/12/2016 12:20

I love both but they are very different sounding to me- Clara is very soft and Greta quite harsh sounding.

KlingybunFistelvase · 01/12/2016 13:52

Greta

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2016 14:09

Clara. Like a pp says, it goes best with a Spanish surname.

I find Greta quite hard sounding.

SausageSoda · 01/12/2016 17:26

Greta is more unusual nowadays which I prefer. Clara is pretty but I know of quite a few lately.

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/12/2016 17:51

Greta

pilates · 01/12/2016 17:52

Clara, Greta sounds harsh

Greta. I don't like the 'khlar' sound of Clara.

Raines100 · 01/12/2016 20:03

Clara.
Don't like Greta.

JanuaryJuniper · 01/12/2016 21:47

Love Greta so much so it's on my list for dc3! It's cool, quirky and edgy whereas Clara is sweet but blah.

WowserBowser · 02/12/2016 14:42

Greta

Was on my list for DD

sidonie1 · 02/12/2016 15:02

I really love both, but had them vetoed by husband. I love Greta slightly more.

Ricekrispiesquare · 02/12/2016 18:24

I like Greta.

I had a baby girl 3 weeks ago and a few night ago I had a dream where I called the baby Gretchen (not my 3 week olds name!) and woke up with slight name regret!
