Gabriel

We are still struggling to decide on a boy's name for if our baby due in a week is a boy. Recently we have been thinking about Gabriel. What are people's thoughts? Too much teasing potential? Would Gabe be inevitable? Our other choices are James, Samuel or Theodore.

I love the name Gabriel

He would be Gabe, I like Theo, just Theo no dore.

I like James,Theodore and Samuel all more than Gabriel, which I see as a very weak name.

But it is pretty popular at the moment, so I may be alone there!

My one year old is called Gabriel - my husband's choice and I wasn't sure at first. I adore it now. He does get Gabe from some people but I also love that

I think it's a lovely name. Gabe is also a fab nn. Why would he get teased? It's a perfectly mainstream boys' name. Not too popular but no out there either. It's a great name.

it's my nearly 5 year old name and I still love it! he's never been teased,but teasing can happen with any name!

He does get called Gabe but recently has stated he prefers Gabriel.

When he was born, a friend described the name as being strong but gentle, which I think is a very good description

Gabriel is a great name.If you don't want it abbreviated to Gabe, then just don't accept that as a nn.

If it's teasing you're concerned about, you need to think of the names of the children he will grow up with, he won't be in a class of Daves, Matts and Deans.

Gabriel really doesn't stand out as unusual these days

Love it! It is one of my favourite boy names. It's not super popular in terms of usage but I know a few now with it as a first or middle name.

I love Gabriel - and I think of Gabriel Byrne the actor who I rather like too...

Wow, thanks for the comments. A lot more positive than I expected. DoraDunn, I was worried about teasing such as shortening it to Gay or that it sounds too feminine as some people have suggested this could be an issue. I know children can be teased for any name/reason but just not sure if this name would make it too easy...
