These are currently our three favourites for Dd2, what are your thoughts?

Hmm... none.

Jovi = Bon Jovi.

Thaissa I don't know how to pronounce... Thay-sah?

Saffy is the name of my dog. She was named for Ab Fab. It doesn't strike me as a proper name. Isn't it typically a shortening for Saffron? A type of rice?

VanessaBet · 23/11/2016 19:21

Jovi? Tres bon!

Sorry, was a big fan back in the day.

Is Saffy a full name, not short for Saffron etc? Never heard of Thaissa

ByeByeLilSebastian · 23/11/2016 19:21

See I like Saffy, but I also know a really cute dog called Saffy so that puts me off.
How do you pronounce the middle one?

VanessaBet · 23/11/2016 19:22

Cross post with Pluto30!

Ethelswith · 23/11/2016 19:24

People will assume that the parents of a Jovi are huge fans of stadium rock.

Saffy is OK - better as a nn for Saffron (

Thaissa (tie-ees-sa) is a lovely name (I have come across one Thais in RL, but this expanded version only on a contestant on this week's Only Connect)

BertrandRussell · 23/11/2016 19:26

None of the above!

Andsoandsoandsowhat · 23/11/2016 19:38

Sorry Thaissa is pronounced tie-ee-ssa, it's Brazilian.

I like Saffy but not keen on Saffron as a full name, is it short for anything else??

You could probably have a Seraphina or Serafina with the nickname Saffy.

Yawninghippo · 23/11/2016 19:49

Saffy could be short for Sapphire or Safyra.

leccybill · 23/11/2016 20:00

'Jovi, as in Bon' - would totally become her first name

Thaissa is a mouthful
Saffy is a bit 1996

AuntieStella · 23/11/2016 20:03

I thought it was a variant of the Greek name Thais. She was a kind of consort of Alexander the Great, and the name is often used in early dramas for prostitutes and courtesans. St Thais was a reformed prostitute.

Ontopofthesunset · 23/11/2016 20:07

I know a Taissa (pronounced Tie-ee-sa) but she is Ukrainian, not Brazilian. Might be easier without the 'h' in terms of lessening confusion.

Neither Jovi nor Saffy seem to me to be proper names. Jovi of course makes me think of Bon Jovi but also sounds like some odd abbreviation of 'jovial' which isn't a bad adjective but makes me think of Dickensian rubicund portly old men. Saffy is the Ab Fab daughter, a shortening of Saffron. Could be, as someone else said, short for Sapphire. Safiya is a Moslem form of Sophia so could also be short for that.

KlingybunFistelvase · 23/11/2016 20:39

I love Sapphire with nn Saffy. Not keen on others sorry.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/11/2016 21:09

I love Thaissa, what a beautiful name OP.
Please name your baby this. ❤️

Notthecarwashagain · 23/11/2016 21:13

I have a chicken called Saffy, short for Sapphire (also have Pearl and Ruby, should anyone care Wink)

I name all my pets names that I'd give a child, so I like the name a lot!

Wafflenose · 23/11/2016 22:10

Thaissa.

Saffy is usually short for Saffron, but how about Safiya/ Safia, Sapphire, or at a push Persephone?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/11/2016 22:46

Or Sapphina.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/11/2016 22:47

Saphina even !

Sophronia · 24/11/2016 14:27

I like Thaissa, and Saffy short for Sapphira/Sapphira or Saffia/Safiyah
