Dasha

What do you all think of the name Dasha (for a girl)?

We wanted to use it for DD1 but thought it wasn't usable enough in non-Russian culture. It's traditionally a nickname for Darya/Daria but we don't like the full name and don't think Dasha from Daria would come naturally for people where we live.

But we're looking at using it this time 'round. Just not sure if it is unusable. Or just horrible and we're blinded? Grin

Love it

StealthPolarBear · 22/11/2016 20:20

It's not horrible but it is...um...reindeer-ey :o

Dingarees · 22/11/2016 20:21

Reindeer.

Don't dislike it though. Maybe a bit trashy- sorry! Reminiscent of names like "Mercedes".

stiffstink · 22/11/2016 20:22

My automatic reaction was "and Dancer."

Pluto30 · 22/11/2016 20:23

I hadn't even considered the reindeer thing Blush

Reindeer.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/11/2016 20:24

Sorry that was rude. Yes first thought is reindeer.

Soubriquet · 22/11/2016 20:24

Yeah I thought reindeer too

But it's nice

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/11/2016 20:26

Wasn't there a Dacha on Strictly?

KlingybunFistelvase · 22/11/2016 20:26

I like it!

NancyJoan · 22/11/2016 20:27

There's a Dasha in DD's class, but mum is Russian.

Pluto30 · 22/11/2016 20:27

just I haven't seen Strictly (know of it though). I'm not in the UK. Smile

I assumed it was reindeer-inspired for a Christmas baby, but I do like it!

Sweets101 · 22/11/2016 20:32

I immediately thought "Dancer, Comet, Vixen"

Sweets101 · 22/11/2016 20:33

Oh no I got it wrong! It's Prancer and Vixen.

ElizaSchuyler · 22/11/2016 20:33

Dd has a friend called Daria who is known as Dasha. She is Russian though.

Imsickofnamechanging · 22/11/2016 20:34

Forget about the reindeer whatever. There's a girl is ds's class called Dasha. It's a lovely name and no one thinks about reindeers.

Soubriquet · 22/11/2016 20:35

Donner, dasher, prancer dancer, vixen, blitzen, comet, Cupid and Rudolph Grin

CoffeeChocolateWine · 22/11/2016 20:36

I know a Dasha (nickname for Daria) and I've always thought it was a lovely name. I can safely say I never ever thought of the reindeer thing!

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 22/11/2016 20:40

It's on our list. But DP is from the former Soviet Union, so not Russian but Russian speaking.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/11/2016 20:48

Pluto was Dasha. Very nice.

user1479835256 · 22/11/2016 22:27

Thought you were going to say it was for a dog. Sorry.

There is Dechen

Or Tasha?

SeveredPixieBits · 22/11/2016 22:33

I thought it was a reindeer inspired Christmas name too. Oops.

Pemba · 22/11/2016 22:37

It's a Russian thing I think. There's also Masha and Sasha etc. Maybe we should be a bit more open-minded about names from different cultures?

TheWayYouLookTonight · 22/11/2016 22:39

Despite never having heard it before, I like it. I didn't immediately think of reindeer.

Not sure if it's of any use at all, but I was at school with a Dara which I always thought was a nice name.
