To rhyme with plot or with the same sound as the ending of toilet?

Clear as mud I'm sure!

Char lot

LadyMumble · 18/11/2016 21:33

To me, Charlotte rhymes with foot. I haven't heard it said to rhyme with lot, but have heard it shortened to Lottie, which I think is a lovely nn for a lot sounding Charlotte. I suppose regional accents make a huge difference.

So far it rhymes with toilet, harlot and foot. Lovely Grin

This is very enlightening. We are majorly struggling with girls names and had almost decided on Charlotte (Shar lut) until MIL was chatting about potential names (off her own bat, we didn't want to) and she pronounced it ( Char Lot) which we both hated....we are Irish but she is posh and went to finishing school in France so that explains how she pronounces it.....still not sure t helps us

Jooni · 19/11/2016 09:33

SHAR-lut.

Jo Brand kept saying Shar-Lot on Bakeoff one week any everyone in this house was Hmm

Honeybee79 · 19/11/2016 09:36

Shar-lot.

Will vary depending on regional accent presumably?

KlingybunFistelvase · 19/11/2016 14:00

Rhymes with scarlet when I say it.
