How would you pronounce this?

Aoife

I love it. When I was expecting DD, it was one of my two favourite names but we didn't go for it because I was worried DD would have a life of "How do you pronounce/spell that?"

"Eee-fa"

7SunshineSeven7 · 12/11/2016 18:52

Ava.

ChessieFL · 12/11/2016 18:53

Ee-fa

Ee-fa

PandaInTheMorning · 12/11/2016 18:53

Ee-fa.

QuiltedAloeVera · 12/11/2016 18:53

To rhyme with wafer, but I'm probably wrong.

MrsBellefleur · 12/11/2016 18:54

Ee-fa but only because I've learnt that from here.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/11/2016 18:54

Ee-fah. It's one of the more obvious Irish names I think.

QuiltedAloeVera · 12/11/2016 18:54

And now I know Smile

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 12/11/2016 18:56

Did your mother have something against consonants?

GreenRut · 12/11/2016 18:56

Ee-fuh but I'm Irish background so know it on sight. I ADORE this name!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 12/11/2016 18:56

Yeah, Eefah!

How many would honestly know how to spell it without checking?

OP posts:
WyfOfBathe · 12/11/2016 18:59

I can pronounce it, but I'm not sure I could spell it consistently. And in a busy environment or if a small child was saying it, I might just assume they were saying Eva.

Loyly · 12/11/2016 18:59

I'd say it Eefa and spell it Aoife (without checking your OP Grin). Such a lovely name.

hoddtastic · 12/11/2016 19:00

Ee-fa

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 12/11/2016 19:03

I do love it.

I am unwilling to compromise on the spelling as well. I would rather keep the Irish spelling. DP is Irish so it wouldn't be weird.

WilliamHerschel · 12/11/2016 19:04

I've seen it written and always thought it was ee-fee!

neonrainbow · 12/11/2016 19:06

My dh thought it was wah-fay first time he saw it.

TataEs · 12/11/2016 19:07

ee-fah
i would have to check spelling as dyslexic but would know it was aoife or similar rather than eeffa or something ridiculous!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 12/11/2016 19:07

I've heard AyOiffEe before.

OP posts:
griffinsss · 12/11/2016 19:08

Ee-fa!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 12/11/2016 19:08

I'm glad to see the majority would say it correctly. Grin

griffinsss · 12/11/2016 19:09

I honestly know how to spelt it without checking, although I would always double check because you never now if someone has tried to anglicise an Irish name!

Artandco · 12/11/2016 19:10

Ay-off-ah I'm afraid
