How would you pronounce this?

Aoife

I love it. When I was expecting DD, it was one of my two favourite names but we didn't go for it because I was worried DD would have a life of "How do you pronounce/spell that?"

Ee-fah. It's a beautiful name. I will say this is why my parents named me what they did rather than Eilidh though, a life spent spelling & pronouncing it.

Ee-fah but I'm Irish

"Did your mother have something against consonants?"

Er is this actually supposed to be funny? Because it isn't.

OP It's a gorgeous name. It's becoming more common over here and I think more people than ever know how to pronounce it.
I too have a very irish name for one of my children and I can assure you it really doesn't cause an issue. If you love it then just go for it. If you are worried then you can always use a very easy middle name to give the option of that being used down the line.

I'd want to say "ae-o-fe" before remembering that wasn't correct and not having a clue what to say.
I wouldn't spell it right either
I sound very uncultured

Ee-fa and I'm not Irish, it's not that unusual, and it's a lovely name.

Well it made me smile!

But maybe I'm suffering from internalised vowel shame......

Did your mother have something against consonants?

Made me laugh too!

I know how to pronounce it, but dh would undoubtedly say 'Ay-off' or something.

Eefah. Most people know how to pronounce it because she was one of the Dorothys in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's show searching for a Dorothy for his new musical.

I do love it. That's it. Back at the top of the list for potential next DD.
