Does Nina Bell work....?

As a name for our 12 day old daughter or does it make you think of ambulances and nee naws?

She has an elder sister and brother (Katie and Liam)

I like the name Nina and when I first saw it with Bell I liked it. I hadn't thought of the emergency siren but must admit my DGS does call a siren a nee-naw... might. E awkward. With your short surname you could get away with a longer first name which could be shortened to Nina to give her a choice? Like Angeljna, Evangeline, Geraldine... just a thought x

Nina is an utterly gorgeous name. Bell is fine as a middle name. What are you worried about?

My son's friend thought his little sister was named Neenaaaa after fire engines. She is now a teenager.

Thanks for advice everyone. Bell is the surname, not a middle name. I do really like Nina as s first name. One other idea I has (as per other thread) is to give her the full name of Christina but then still call her Nina as a shortening of Christina.

That would have advantage of meaning she had other name shortenings open to her if she decided she didn't like Nina. Feels like I'm making a hash of making a decision on this

But Nina's fine alone. There's a Nina on an Australian show called Offspring and she's just great.

I don't think you're making a hash of this decision, but you do seem to be overthinking it.

Nina is a lovely name. It's fine with Bell. Christina is also lovely, as is Katerina.

I'm sorry I don't think it works well and sounds very insubstantial as a name. It sounds a bit like a character in a children's book or similar. I could be prejudiced in that I am not a fan of Nina anyway but I think it needs a hefty or lengthy surname to balance it.

I also wouldn't like the teasing potential with the siren etc that you identify.

Just do it! it's lovely - and not insubstantial. My first and surname combined only consist of 8 letters and I don't have a middle name. I've never felt robbed

If you do think about things like... what if she doesn't like the name? Wouldn't she want more nickname options? Isn't it substantial enough? I'd simply suggest giving her a middle name.

There are so many options. Nina is such a beautiful and refined name and Bell a really nice surname. (I honestly have a slight case of surname jealousy... )

But if her other sibling don't have middle names I honestly wouldn't give her one either.

Hi - Nina is in our top two for DD. I had the same concerns as you as someone else mentioned on a thread I started that the name had nee-naw nee-naw connotations. These had never crossed my mind before someone else mentioned it!

I think it a lovely, classy name. We only have one other contender!
