Thoughts?
It would be Madelyn, right?
Madeleine - Mad-eh-leen
Madelaine - Mad-eh-lane
Madeline - Mad-eh-line
Madelyn is Mad-eh-lyn? This is a massive deal to me and I just want it to be right :(

Why mess with a beautiful classic name? Reminds me of madeley (as in Richard). I would know it was mad a Lin but in my head would be thinking 'mayd lin'.

RiverTam · 09/11/2016 22:36

For me Madeleine and Madelyn are pronounced the same way, no 'leen' at the end of Madeleine.

madalaine looks like a spelling mistake to me

Madeline would be as you've said.

NannyR · 09/11/2016 22:43

If someone told me their child's name was mad-eh-Lyn, I would just assume it was spelt Madeleine - to me that's the normal spelling and pronunciation. Madelyn looks a bit made up/unique.

I am a Madeleine and I adore my spelling! I'm probably (definitely) biased but I think it's great and I've always had frequent compliments. I'm 37.

wobblywonderwoman · 09/11/2016 22:49

Go for the proper spelling Madeleine

Beautiful name by the way

ChippyMinton · 09/11/2016 22:59

Please go with Madeleine. Your pronunciation seems to be the way most people say it anyway.

JinkxMonsoon · 09/11/2016 23:01

I would pronounce all four spellings the same way, and assume they are incorrect/variant spellings of Madeleine.

Sophronia · 09/11/2016 23:19

I prefer the Madeleine spelling

Well, I would pronounce

Madeleine as Mad-eh-laine (emphasis on Laine)

Madelyn as Mad-eh-lyn (emphasis on Mad)

Pipilangstrumpf · 10/11/2016 08:42

And Madeline as Mad-eh-lyne

Cel982 · 10/11/2016 08:45

Madeleine is the traditional spelling, and is pronounced Mad-uh-lyn, not Mad-uh-leen. I'd stick with that.

Pluto30 · 10/11/2016 10:15

Madeleine and Madelyn are pronounced the same, IMO.

Madeline is Mad-uh-LINE (to rhyme with divine - like the French girl in the books/movies).

Madelaine is not a name.

Eolian · 10/11/2016 10:23

They are all pronounced the same (except that some people still use the rather old-fashioned-sounding English pronunciation of Madeline - to rhyme with 'mine'). Just use one of the proper spellings (Madeleine or Madeline).

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 10/11/2016 10:30

Madeleine is a beautiful name and perfect spelt like that.

Madelyn would be pronounced the same but I think that spelling is far duller and more prone to mispronunciation.
