Kajsa, Katja or Katrin

Scandinavian/Dutch family, naming a currently entirely imaginary DC3.

I love the three names above, which works best in England? I think Katrin is my favourite ..

DC1 and 2 have traditional names in our country, a bit unusual here but work well in English, so that's what I am aiming for..

Katrin is my favourite too, with Katja second.

How do you pronounce Kajsa? I've not heard it before.

The Kaj bit rhymes with 'hi', and the s is a sharp s, if you see what I mean.

Correct pronunciation might be an issue with that one I guess

My dh is dutch, and I speak it, and I wouldn't know how to say Kajsa, in fact I thought it was a typo, and it should be Kasja.
So I think you would run into constant problems with pronunciation and spelling.

Yes Kajsa is a suggestion from the Scandinavian side of the family, not Dutch. We don't spent much time in Holland so mostly worried about how people would cope with it here. But it does seem to be the trickiest one!

Kajsa sounds a bit like 'Kaiser', then. Not ideal.

Yes it would is a bit like Kaiser I suppose. Kristin is nice but too close to someone in the family. Karin and Ingrid, which I both like, are out for the same reason. I'm also considering Sigrid.

I have a niece who is a Katja, she changed it to Katy for school! (Her choice!). I think it's a lovely name that works well in both languages

Sorry just saw it was Katrin! My brain is not working! Think that works equally well and again can be shortened to Katy/Kat if she chooses

Katja is a great name

Katrin is the easiest for Brits to pronounce. You might find the odd person pronouncing Katja as Kat-jah (with a hard J like James).

Saskia or Astrid as an alternative? both well known here

Kajsa would be pronounced correctly in dutch (like the name!) but won't won't work in English so I would leave that one out. I like Katrin as well. Just to give another suggestion: would Kaya do in all three languages? It's a nice name as well.

I have a katja (although we went with the -ya spelling). I'm obviously biased, but I think it's a wonderful name! The only issue that we've had with pronunciation (which we didn't forsee) is that there is a tendency in the UK to pronounce it with three syllables (kat-EE-ah). Quite where people are getting three syllables from 5 letter word I don't know, but this may not be an issue for you if you're not uk based.

Mary how do you pronounce Katya then? I've met two Katya in my lifetime, one Russian descent. They both pronounced it as Kat-ee-yah.

Katja... Lovely name and what I planned (although wth a y) for my DD... Had to rethink when I ended up with 3 x DS and there were no boys names I liked.
