Just curious ... in Britain, how do people tend to pronounce this? I grew up hearing Jen-a-veev, but think zhon-vee-ev is likely more correct?

Jen-a-veev

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/11/2016 18:34

I'd say Je ne vee ève

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/11/2016 18:35

With the emphasis on the last syllable, ève.

BratFarrarsPony · 01/11/2016 18:35

Gen a veev but with a soft G

MissBattleaxe · 01/11/2016 18:36

Beautiful name. In Britain it would be pronounced Jen-uh-VEEVE

lizzieoak · 01/11/2016 18:36

Not sure I can get my head round that one, Pipilang.

Just in case I'm ever in charge of naming kids @ an orphanage (dream job!!).

The national lottery ball machine is called Genevieve
It's prounounced Jen-a-veev

lizzieoak · 01/11/2016 18:38

In France or Switzerland they'd say Jean-vee-ev, non? I like both ways, think it's so pretty & underused.

Jenna-veev or zhenna-veev in Britain as we omit the accent grave.
In France, it's zhun-vee-ev because of the accent. Beautiful name

Maims100 · 01/11/2016 19:27

Oops! Must revert to pre-Hallowe'en name!

lizzieoak · 01/11/2016 19:36

Being Canadian I can usually figure out how to say these things, but being English Canadian have no idea about the mechanics (lots of Anglophones do, I'm just not good at those things).
