It's not that unusual in Ireland. There was a member of the British Parliament, 'John Redmond' from co wexford and his background was interesting. Protestant mother and raised catholic gentry so a foot in both camps leading to a moderate approach, he was nationalist who sought to rule Ireland locally but never to sever ties with the UK. He succeeded Charles Stewart Parnell as the leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party and he was responsible for the Land Act. It's a good name imo.
