I like Redmond, Red for short

HappyCamel · 29/10/2016 01:39

It's a bit unique. Genuine question - why do you prefer it over Edmund? I think if you give the name over the phone that's what people will hear.

DamePastel · 29/10/2016 01:56

It's not that unusual in Ireland. There was a member of the British Parliament, 'John Redmond' from co wexford and his background was interesting. Protestant mother and raised catholic gentry so a foot in both camps leading to a moderate approach, he was nationalist who sought to rule Ireland locally but never to sever ties with the UK. He succeeded Charles Stewart Parnell as the leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party and he was responsible for the Land Act. It's a good name imo.

Ryan O'Neal who played Redmond Barry in the Stanley Kubrick film Barry Lyndon called his son Redmond.

I know a Redmond, he is a nice guy. It a little unusual but nice. Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/10/2016 04:16

I like it. I love Red for short.

FuckThatToOneSide · 29/10/2016 08:06

Like!

My2centsworth · 29/10/2016 08:07

Yes it is not particularly unique in the last generation in Ireland. I have not heard it in a while though. I like it.

stonygreysoil · 29/10/2016 08:30

Love Love Love Redmond. Was in very close running for DS's name and front runner for future DS2.

Sophronia · 29/10/2016 08:32

Like it with Red for short

stonygreysoil · 29/10/2016 08:33

and OP i'm sure you know it, but its fine historic name- Irish version of Raymond, and like others say is not unheard of in Ireland.

Got a lot more zip to it than Edmond/mund.

TaggieRR · 29/10/2016 08:38

Have never heard it as a name before. However, I do quite like it and it gives different nicknames for your DC.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/10/2016 09:23

Great name. 😄

HardcoreLadyType · 29/10/2016 09:25
