I love Angelica. I hope you manage to convince him.

TaggieRR · 29/10/2016 22:32

If you love Lettice I would def use it as a middle name, not a first name!

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 00:20

much I wish. DH said some things about Angelica... I don't think I like it anymore. :(

Taggie well, I like(d?) Lettice because of DH's great aunt... and because of the meaning. But I think I'd actually like to honour my side of the family as well.

DH and I talked about it and he made several other suggestions... but I just don't like those names :(

Thalia and William. The rest are awful.

flipsahoy · 30/10/2016 03:51

There are some Lettices in my family tree but as a surname. I had no idea it was a first name as well.

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 11:37

flips

Oh, that's so interesting. I didn't know Lettice was a surname :)

Trump well, I really like William.
Thalia? I actually don't love this name. But as a middle name? Why not...

OP posts:
ample · 30/10/2016 11:42

William Horatio.
How about William Frederick or William Bertram?

No to everything else.

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 11:47

Doesn't William Bertram sounds a bit... weird?
"am" "am"?

But I do like William Frederick, that's actually lovely. Thanks :)

The boy's names are basically sorted now. But the girl's names? I just don't like any. :(

AlmaMartyr · 30/10/2016 11:48

William is fine, quite boring.

Lettice is really pretty, I've known a couple of them.

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 11:56

I also like the name Lettice...

Plus, the house we live in used to be Lettice's (DH's favourite great aunt). I didn't know her but from what I've seen/heard she was an absolutely lovely woman.

And she meant a lot to DH. So...
Idk. I came to the conclusion that the first name simply can't be Lettice.

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2016 12:07

I actually quite like Tuppence.
Although I wouldn't use it.

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 13:36

Baroness

Neither would I 😂

But it would be cute for a pet. Maybe when if/we get a dog...

Vegangelist · 30/10/2016 14:19

I love Tuppence! Wouldn't use it but would be delighted to meet one.

What about Angelique? Though I don't know what's wrong with Angelica?

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 14:36

vega
I don't like Angelique. I did go to a mainly French speaking school, so I'm actually not sure why. But I usually prefer the Italian versions of names (probably because of my originally Italian grandmother?).

DH seems to suddenly hate Angelica :(

And I just don't like the new names he put on his list: Honora, Millicent, Ottilie/Odilia and Iris (Iris is lovely, but it reminds me of the Daesh..) :(

daisypond · 30/10/2016 14:42

Lettice is a normal name, not something just invented. It's a bit old fashioned now. I see it as an Edwardian name, so maybe due for a renaissance. I like Thalia the best.

Bogburglar75 · 30/10/2016 15:05

Just a thought - could you call her Letty? Either just Letty or Lettice/Lettys/Laetitia on the birth certificate but always known as Letty? Avoids the Lettuce thing but is quite pretty and fits in with the current Edwardian name vibe - Ettie/Millie/ Edie etc etc?

SpunkyMummy · 30/10/2016 16:35

Thank you daisy and burglar. Lettie is cute :)

But if we were to put Lettice on the bc... wouldn't a teacher still say Lettice for role call etc? So, the "Lettice" thing probably couldn't be avoided that way.

But we could use it as a 2nd name and call the LO Lettie, I think...

Barefootcontessa84 · 31/10/2016 07:24

Angelica is OK, but considering it is a herb, seems pretty ridiculous next to Lettice. Unless you add Radish as a third middle name...

Pipilangstrumpf · 31/10/2016 07:48

The most teasable of all your suggested names is William with Willy!

I love the name Lettice and nickname Letty! Beautiful and not overused. I also like Horatio and Frederick.

JosephineMaynard · 31/10/2016 10:07

Given how popular William is currently in baby name popularity charts, I have to think that a William would only get name related bullying if he was a target for some other reason anyway.

SpunkyMummy · 31/10/2016 21:34

contessa also true. I really struggle with girl's names, tbh...

pipi I actually agree with Josephine. The name William is probably too popular to get a lot of "Willy" jokes.

RoseGoldHippie · 01/11/2016 22:14

If you call a child William Horacio he will end up being Willy Fellacio.

RoseGoldHippie · 01/11/2016 22:14

**Horatio even!

SpunkyMummy · 01/11/2016 23:04

hippie

Really? That's... I didn't think of that. Do kids even know the word fellatio?

OP posts:
RoseGoldHippie · 02/11/2016 07:22

Kids might not but it's when they're a teenager/adult that they will start getting that.

Arguably worse than kids name-calling on the playground as there is no end point.
