Ahah ahaha! Good one OP.

Oh, you're not joking?

It's slightly worrying that you see nothing wrong with naming your child Lettice and children mocking her for this. As an adult, the jokes won't seem so bad, but as a child, they will be horrendous. Don't do that to them!

i think Leticia is good mix of practicality and tribute to the family member.

Angelica not my cup of tea, but not the worst..

unless you're continental, i would stick the C back in Frederik. Otherwise all good on that front

When on my "I'm on" page I saw someone on another thread had said "No Cabbage" and I legitimately thought it was this thread.

What does that tell you?

It really annoys me that you keep saying "Oh well, kids will still find a way to bully even without an unusual stupid name."

No. I wasn't bullied at school. Not every child does but you are acting like it's an inevitable part of your kids childhood Angry.

What is the difference in the pronunciation? You say it's LET-iss. Are you just saying the first syllable louder?Confused

Glitter
I wasn't bullied at school either (and I have a very "quirky" stupid...Biscuit name). I don't think bullying is an inevitable part of a child's childhood.
But because of a name? I doubt it...

Collette was apparently bullied "because" of her name. But maybe somebody simply wanted to bully her. And just happened to use her name.

Sorry, this is pedantic and boring, but, following on from a comment up-thread, Lettys did not 'become Laetitia'. Laetitia was there first -it's a Latin name meaning 'Joy'. English versions of classical names became fashionable among the upper classes in 16/17th cent England, along with lots of other Roman stuff.

Angelica is certainly a very pretty plant, so that's a nice association. I prefer it to Thalia, which makes me think of (v. good) continental bookshops.
I'd go for 'Lettys' (that spelling) as a middle name.

I didn't think the mice comment was this mean. I was asking for honest opinions.

But I shouldn't have shown this thread to DH. After reading it he's trying to veto Angelica ... :(

flora that's true. Lettice is a form of Laetitia...

I don't expect children to be bullied because of their names. But I would also not expect 11 year olds-even the best behaved ones- to be able to restrain a giggle when they met their new classmate Lettice. And you really don't want a name that makes people have to repress a giggle. And even a little teasing gets tedious after a while.

Angelica is perfectly acceptable imo. Quite a bold name but I like it.

You literally want to call your child Lettuce spelt with an i? Confused

That is cruel. Children will laugh at her unfortunately- names are common fodder used by bullies. What Bertrandrussell said.

Angelica and Thalia are quite pretty.

I just vetoed DH. He's not amused. At all...

I suggested Ottilie Bluebell Lettice. It seems like he might be ok with that.
I really like Angelica. :(

If you have more children you have to make sure they have a non-name item of foodstuff in their name as well.

William Horatio Yogurt

Frederik Bertram Chickpea

It's only fair.

no, I really did say no to Lettice. Sigh :(

Thalia, if pronounced Thay-lee-a, does sound rather like failure, especially if you happen to have a child who struggles with pronouncing the.

Op, are you and or your husband foreign? Or have spent a lot of time abroad?

Because I myself am a foreigner living in England (married a Brit). And picking a babyname was very very difficul for me. Some of the names I love just don't work here...

However, Angelica is lovely.
Your boynames are cute.

And Lettice or Letitia could be a cute middlename.

My kids at e generally kind hearted, but I think both of then would have to control a smirk ( at the least) of th get meet someone called lettuce. Even a little play on words can be horrible for a self conscious pree teen. Please consider her future happiness!

Letitia or even Letizia could be compromises on Lettice.

horatio DH is British. My father is British but I didn't grow up in the U.K. and my first language isn't English.

oh I told DH that the LO's first name certainly won't be Lettice... but I do think it would be a cute middle name. If the LO is older I can ask what they think about being called Lettice.

I do hope I can get DH to like Angelica... But Ottilie is lovely. So, I guess that is (imo) an option.
