Talia is the only salvageable thing out of that mess.

Oops. Well, I really like Lettice. But different people have different opinions. And their opinions are valid. I did ask, after all :)

Angelica reminds me of the Italian country side. It was actually the name of a woman that used to work on my grandmother's vineyard (terrible wine...).That's probably why the name Angelica is so rural imo.

What are you thinking, are you writing a book about talking mice

Grin

How is Lettice pronounced? It was fashionable in Tudor times, one of Elizabeth I's ladies-in-waiting was called Lettys. I always assumed it was pronounced Le-teece, but on a tv programme they said it like the salad vegetable so for that reason, I'd probably avoid that one. I quite like Lettie though.

impossible why would you want to be normal?

Bluebell Ottilie sounds actually very cute, doesn't it?

Oh lord. Don't like any. Wouldn't even saddle an animal with any of those names.

OP would you like to have been lumbered with the name Lettice?
ffs

Potcallingkettle · 28/10/2016 23:30

Thalia is a lovely name.

SpunkyMummy · 28/10/2016 23:33

The pronounciation of Lettice?
LET-iss. Unless you're French...

The name actually predates the use of the word lettuce.
I really don't like the name Laetitia. But thank you for the suggestion, Bog. :)

chatty I agree :) no, there isn't a really a good reason for that... I do have an ancestor called Frederik, so maybe that's why (said relative was actually German). But DH might want to spell it with a ck.

llangenith sure, why not? I don't know why you think the nn Lettuce is this bad.

Some people do call me spunky, after all... :)

Can you really not put a bit of imagination into considering being a child and introducing yourself as "Lettice"?

TheHiphopopotamus · 28/10/2016 23:42

Apparently, one of Boris Johnson's daughters is called Lettice. Is that enough to put you off?

Report
SpunkyMummy · 28/10/2016 23:43

Why should that put me off? Confused

New Year 7 class. Teacher says "And what's your name?" Imagine what it would feel like to have to announce to 29 11 year olds you'be never met before that your name is Lettice.

And then think of another name for your daughter.

I don't mind not being normal, just wanted to warn you my answer may not tally with popular opinion.

Bluebell Ottilie/Ottolie is lovely, or Ottilie Bluebell (nn Lottie-Bell?).

SpunkyMummy · 28/10/2016 23:54

Ottilie Bluebell really is adorable. Thanks Flowers.

Ottilie Bluebell Lettice... Ottilie Bluebell Ann. Ottilie Bluebell Fleur!!

Hmm... Hmm. I wonder what DH would think about that...

Much prefer your suggestions to those of your DH. Bertrand is right. Please don't give your dd the first name Lettice (though I agree it's lovely).

I agree with others' comments on the name Lettice, it's not going to be great to sound as if you aere named after salad.

I am baffled by some of the "no no never awful names all of them" commens tho - William and Fred? Awful?? eh? They are both fine tho I would go for Frederick rather than Frederik personally. Angelica is nice too :)

Mad middle names are fine IMO.

Love love love Ottilie Bluebell!

Hope you find a fabulously quirky name but I wouldn't go for Lettice. It's a ridiculously hard name to live up to.

Forgot to add I also love William Horacio. If I was brace enough I would of gone for Montgomery (Monty).

Now I LOVE the name Fleur. And Violette. And Anaïs.

Angelica and Lettice are both food names, even with the variation on spelling (and names of characters in kids books) Frederick is nice. Not fussed on the others sorry.

88 special snowflake...? Well, of course the LO is special imo.

But I highly doubt the LO will be the one to cure cancer or something.
And even if your DS had been named Elizabeth... I'm pretty sure the bullies would have found an other way to bully her.

I honestly didn't think these names were that quirky, Judge.

But I do appreciate the comments :)!!
