DW and I are having an enjoyable struggle naming our DS2 (due December, so there's time yet!)

We have a difference of opinion on Blake. I'd be interested for people's input on what associations you have with the name: positive, negative, indifferent etc.

Naturally you will suggest alternatives. Those would be very welcome too.

Just not very nice. Bloke, flake, blank, blakeys, bleurgh, blade. Also Blake's 7 and Blake Carrington.

I think of a boy we know in the neighbourhood called Blake - he's about 11 years old. Nice lad.
He's got a sister called Hazel. Both quite unusual these days - got to be better than another boring Jack.

Ontopofthesunset · 31/10/2016 23:09

That's a matter of opinion (I'm not keen on either of them), but there are lots of other names that are neither Blake nor Jack. It would take too long to list them all.

Always makes me think of Blake Lively from Gossip Girl

I do know boys with it though and do like the name :)

GiveUmEll · 02/11/2016 16:19

A very fit lad.
Army lad I used to know who was buff.
In general, handsome men.
LOVE Logan and Blake together

dotdotdotmustdash · 04/11/2016 21:57

I might be too late, but can I bring Chewbacca to the table? It makes me think of someone tall, strong and sensitive.

Otherwise, Finnan, Struan or Harris.

Queenofthecats · 07/11/2016 11:46

It makes me think of the only 2 Blakes I know, American "fuckboy" and a black gay.

autumnmoon · 07/11/2016 12:12

Blake Seven.
Or an Australian or American name.

How about Leith, if you're in Scotland? Logan and Leith - I think they sound quite nice together!

HingleMcCringleberry · 07/11/2016 12:31

Contessa, we are not in Scotland, so while on the one hand your suggestion could work, on the other: my Dad's from Leith - it's hardcore Trainspotting country, so if we're talking connotations, they don't get much grimmer! Given our surname, I might as well call the child Francis and blight his life for ever more.

Fair enough Grin I'd have liked Leith for one of my DC (it has Arab roots too - I think meaning lion) but it was not to be! Maybe for our hypothetical third child.....

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 07/11/2016 13:47

Our DS1 is Logan, when we were expecting DS2 we tried to find a name that matched the 'cool and Scottish' theme but struggled to find one we liked.

We ended up matching the 'US/Aus surfer/rock star' vibe with a Zach.

Finn, Flynn and Max were also on the list.

Mrswinkler · 07/11/2016 13:53

Blake's 7 Grin

HingleMcCringleberry · 07/11/2016 13:59

Untilthecows - you named your child after Zach from Saved by the Bell, didn't you? He was awesome, so that's a great choice!

No I'm afraid not. I preferred Screech

If it was after anyone it was Zack de la Rocha. We liked 'rock star' names. I wanted Max for Max Cavellera but it didn't go with our surname.

groovygreenwichgirl · 08/11/2016 13:27

William
Amy Winehouse's boyfriend

KoalaDownUnder · 09/11/2016 04:21

Do not like.

It's a very 1980s/90s wannabe-surfer-cool name, I think. Like Chad, Brett, Clint.
