Can we use this as a middle name?

My OH has always wanted to name a little boy Harry after his grandad but one of his close friends named their child harry for the same reasons before we even fell pregnant, unfortunately this baby died. Now we would not dream of calling our baby harry now but do you think it would be wrong to use it as a middle name? Was thinking of running it past them first if it seems acceptable.

Thanks

I think it's fine using the name as a middle name.

Fine as middle name. It's a fairly popular name so they will be likely to come across other Harrys at some point. Aside from the initial announcement friends are unlikely to use / hear the middle name anyway - I can't remember the middle names of some of my friends' kids.

It's fine. I actually don't think you'd be in the wrong for giving your ds Harry as a first name given its to honour a relative but middle name is probably safer

If people are going to choose a name in the top ten they have to accept that there will be a lot of other children also called that. I'm sure they have already considered this and are fine with it, otherwise they'd have picked something else, so I think using it as a first name would be fine, too.

If they'd named him something really unusual and you called your son the same it may seem a little odd. Though saying that, no one owns a name.

I think it's OK to use as a first name, let alone a middle name. As others have said it's a top 10 name atm and it's personal to your family so you've as good a reason to use it as any. My heart goes out to your friends that lost their son.

How lovely are you Broody. Just have a word, tell them that you love the name that they chose, and take it from there.
I bet they'll be honoured.
