I need some more names for our shortlist as I have a few I like but DH isn't sure about any of them. Maybe if I add a few more we'll finally find one we both like...

Boys:
Julian
Ivan
Atticus
Lucas
Austin
Dylan
Quentin

Girls:
Willow
Grace
Heidi
Ellie
Zara
Florence

I mainly like old fashioned, poncey, and quirky names... I also like names that are not too babyish, i.e. names that are good grown-up names too.

Have you tried www.nymbler.com? It lets you put in names you like and suggests others in a similar vein. It is very very american though (wish there was a uk version) so you have to mentally edit the results a bit.

I just put your girls' names in and some that come up which fit "old fashioned, quirky, grown up" are:

Verity
Amity
May
Ida
Hazel
Abigail
Joy
Willa
Constance
Cecily
Della
Hester
Robin
Delilah
Adeline
Coral
Petra
Hope

Wjat names has he suggested?

Flingmoo · 25/10/2016 11:29

He hasn't suggested any viable names, he always suggests stupid ones like Igor or Vlad - and I'm never even 100% sure he's joking... it was the same with our first DS!

I love the name Reuben but my close friend's son has that name!

Ive decided I love boys names that end in 'n' like Tristan, Julian, Reuben etc. My son's name is one of the names ending in N.

I'm only 11 weeks so won't know the gender for a while yet. Last time round we decided on the boy's name already when I was 9 weeks pregnant!

Thanks for all the suggestions they're great! I'm always open to more. I find the girls ones really tricky.

Pipilangstrumpf Quentin and Zara would be great siblings wouldn't they?!

Are you German-speaking btw? (Based on your username...) DH's family is so I'm hoping for names that work in both languages. Smile

Samuel works well in English and German. I love your selection of names and the suggestions.

Gruffalosfriend · 09/11/2016 11:05

Love all of your suggestions op, in particular

Ivan
Quentin
Austin

Zara
Florence
Heidi

Other suggestions: Tristan, Dominic, Alice or Edith?

Flingmoo · 10/11/2016 11:54

There was an awful Tristan at my primary school although I barely remember him, so I used to hate that name. However, a couple of weeks ago I bizarrely had a dream about a handsome man named Tristan, so now I like it Grin It's on my shortlist!
