Van for a boy? And middle name ideas!

Hi I like Van for a boy but wanted to see opinions first as I know it's a big car etc! We like it from Van Morrison and also it is a name on its own in Vietnam meaning literature!
(However, I know it won't be to most people's taste)
If it's a name you think is ok, any middle name ideas?
Other name idea is Abel. But we already have a biblical boys name so didn't want to go with that trend really! Also have a daughter with a flowery girl name and a son with an unusual name similar to Cai.

Thanks for any input (not too harsh please!)

You can't have a Van Ellis - it's too Vangelis! I'm now going to have Chariots of Fire in my head all day!

Stevefromstevenage · 25/10/2016 09:13

Evan or Evander and then Van works well. Not mad about Ivan so I understand why Van Morrison changed it definitely a no on Van alone. It is very limiting as he gets older.

fitzbilly · 25/10/2016 09:16

I think it's s nice name but she with others, give him a name like evader or Ivan and use van as his nick name.

rainbowstardrops · 25/10/2016 09:16

I agree that Evander is better but with Van as a nn.

Pebbles0934 · 25/10/2016 09:39

Thanks for your input! I know it would be better to have a more traditional name and have Van as a nn but I just don't really like any of them! Evan is nice but too popular in my opinion. I don't like Ivan. Evander is too long for me.
I like Avan? Cavan? Maybe!

I really like Van. But the middle name is tricky. Maybe something traditional. Joseph?

SoupDragon · 25/10/2016 09:51

I think it's awful as an actual name.

Is Evan popular? It's not a name I've heard in use where I am.

SoupDragon · 25/10/2016 09:52

All the Virgin Media vans appear to be named things like Van Helsing and Van MOrrison. It makes me smile whenever I see them!

Chinlo · 25/10/2016 10:21

He's actually George Ivan Morrison.

I like Evander. What about these: www.babynamewizard.com/baby-name/advanced-name-finder/results?gender=M&sequence=van

BarInSpace · 25/10/2016 10:21

Sullivan
Donovan
Evangelo
Giovanni
Javan
Levander
Silvano
Vance

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/10/2016 10:26

Love Sullivan (Van).
OP, he would only need a longer name on paper.
Evander John
Sullivan Luke
Evan James
Ivan Daniel

rainbowstardrops · 25/10/2016 10:27

I like Cavan. I know of one. Avan is ok but never heard of it.
Also like Devan.

I suppose Vivian could technically be shortened to Van, and is obviously a unisex name

NoCapes · 25/10/2016 10:52

If you like Van what about Truck? Or Train? Or Bulldozer?

Come on now OP don't be silly

autumnmoon · 25/10/2016 11:04

Driver
Halen
Gogh

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/10/2016 12:01

Having a good chuckle here at NoCapes' suggestions. 😂

Stevefromstevenage · 25/10/2016 12:24

Halen Gogh isn't there a Swedish drinking song that sounds pretty similar to this?

user1472334322 · 26/10/2016 20:33

I like pp idea of Dean. Devon James would work well.

user1472334322 · 26/10/2016 20:34

I meant Devan!

user1472334322 · 26/10/2016 20:35

Stupid phone keeps changing what I wrote!!!

Alligatorpie · 26/10/2016 20:59

I know a two year old Vance. His parents don't shorten it, but I am sure he will when he is older.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2016 01:58

I like it and I know three under 10. I think it's becoming a Thing.

I think it's a perfectly acceptable name and if that's what he is to be called on a daily basis, then no reason not to put it on the BC.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2016 02:05

For a middle name I would use something more mainstream.

Maybe something surnamey -
Van Austin
Van Scott
Van Griffin
Van Marshall

Non surname names -
Van Casper
Van Oliver
Van Frederick
Van Alexander

MotherDuckSaid · 27/10/2016 06:53

A big no to van, sorry
However I Absolutely Love Abel
I have a Cain, so can't use it myself!
