And middle name suggestions? Surname begins with D.

Suggested it in front of some close family a few days ago, some said it was nice, others said it was too old fashioned. I really like it although my judgement might be clouded by hormones and exhaustion.

We have gone over and over names and nothing leaps out, we keep coming back to Pearl and Matilda but don't like them in combination so couldn't have one as first name and one as a middle name.

Our other DC have nicknamed the baby 'Pear' so the other reason I like it is because it contains the word pear so is a little nod to how sweet it is when they talk about 'their Pear'.

Probably outing myself, but dds middle name is Evangeline - that gets lots of comments also!

YolandiFuckinVisser · 23/10/2016 23:07

I think it's lovely. It's an old lady name but a nice one. My DD has friends called Elsie, Maggie, Matilda, Edith, Dorothy. They are also old lady names but not as nice as Pearl.

Willow33 · 23/10/2016 23:07

Pearl is lovely and definitely more in vogue again. It's lovely as long as you don't want a name that no one else has because I do know a few little girls called Pearl.

Coey2016 · 23/10/2016 23:09

I like it a lot

SingaSong12 · 23/10/2016 23:13

A lovely name, I like Matilda but prefer Pearl

Ohyesiam · 23/10/2016 23:15

Lovely

winkywinkola · 23/10/2016 23:33

Lovely.

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2016 23:36

Don't like it, sorry. Not because it's old-fashioned; I'm just not keen.

Buntysoven · 24/10/2016 00:29

Beautiful name.

unicornsarenotjustforchristmas · 24/10/2016 09:03

It's lovely!
But I think it may become quite popular now there is a baby Pearl in eastenders. And sharon & ozzy Osborne's granddaughter is Pearl too

I love it and would have used it but for Eastenders, which I only found out about on this thread Sad

Tarla · 24/10/2016 10:39

I don't watch Eastenders so have no idea about baby Pearl on there.

I've suggested it to the DC this morning and they love it, I played them the Elkie Brooks song via YouTube and they love that too. Eldest now keeps singing it to bump Grin

DH hasn't said yes but hasn't said no, I'm going to play the "I'm having major surgery to provide you with a child..." trump card to persuade him.

I love Pearl and it was also on our shortlist.. until I realised I couldn't name our child after a rock band! (Our surname begins 'Jam')!

Love, love, love if! It was the only name my husband refused... I'm still a bit gutted!

Tryitonce · 24/10/2016 17:33

Don't like it at all. I like some old lady names but that's too dated.

Ilovenannyplum · 24/10/2016 17:36

Love love love love! Beautiful name.

It's my youngest sisters middle name and if DS was a girl, it would have been his middle name too. I liked it for a first name but DP didn't spoilsport

DerelictMyBalls · 24/10/2016 17:50

My only problem with Pearl is that it has a vague sound to it, like Fleur. Hardly anyone pronounces the 'L' at the end of it so it ends up sounding something like 'Pergh'.

It's a nice name, although doesn't sound good when said in my Northern Irish accent - sounds like Purl - but as long as she doesn't move to NI (or Scotland) she should be fine Grin

stonygreysoil · 28/10/2016 09:02

Love it.
