William but have a Harry already?

Ds2 is due in a few days and we have yet to decide on a name.
The only name we actually agree on and both really love is William, however DS1 is called Harry.
What do you think? Is it too 'royalist' or do you think it could work without us getting too much stick?

I would try to think of something else, there are millions of names! I wouldn't pick the both names of a very famous duo be it William and Harry or ant and Dec or Victoria and David or hilary and Bill etc. It doesn't make you look royalist but it does make you seem like a bit dull, sorry, like you can't think of anything else.

DD was born in April and if she had been a boy she would have been called billy, for my dad William! What about that?

Just pick a name you like and you think your child would like. What is the matter if there are royals of the same name??

Pretty much everyone will make the connection. It'd get old pretty fast I reckon.

It doesn't matter really but people will comment on it All. The. Time. and you'll get fed up hearing it. My dd dob has all the same numbers in it ie 01/01/01 and every single time I have to give her dob the person passes comment. That's something I can't control and it's fine but do you know how many times I have heard oooh you'll never forget that one.

If you're fine with people constantly saying awww wee Princes or ooh are you a fan of the royals or something like that then why not. But if it will bother you then I'd just find something else.

Yes. People will assume you're a fan of the Royals. If that would bother you, then. I'd advise you to think of something else.

I have a William and Harry! I didn't even make the connection until a friend pointed it out when William was a few weeks old, he was meant to be Edward William but I switched it around when he was born.

Anyway, hardly anyone mentions it. I sometimes make a joke of it if people raise their eyebrows.

How about Liam? I know a lady whose son is registered William but gets called Liam

I love William and we nearly went for it, because my beloved Grandad was William. Counting up though we knew five already when DS2 was born and now they're both at school I can't tell you how many Williams there - in our small school there are several in each year group and so each one has to be called by his surname as well. What we did was use it as a middle name and choose another, less popular name as first name. Predictably enough, there is another one in his class, even though the name wasn't even top 100 in the year he was born!

Someone in my family has twins who are William and Harry. I think most people commented on it maybe once, and that was it.... Not even to criticise, more like 'Oh, like Princes William & Harry'.... They're 2 very common names, so I think people won't be very quick to make the connection anyway.

In a previous primary school there were brothers, Liam and Billy...
I don't think the parents were aware it's basically the same name.

I think it might be ok if you also have a clutch of daughters in between with non royal names. But just two boys, both called the same, will invite comments. Up to you if you can live with that. It would be worse if it were the other way round with William as the elder. I think this is different also from the other examples of Ant and Dec or whatever, the royal duo will probably be highly prominent and associated as a pair in everyone's minds for the first 50 years of your children's lives. I know I would not like like be tag-teamed with a sibling in a this way.

OP, William and Harry, are both lovely names.
It doesn't matter one jot, whether people see a Royal connection, or not.
They are your Sons, name them what you will 😄

I wouldn't. There are soo many names to choose from, that you don't need to give your boys the same names as the princes.

Agree with pps, unless you live somewhere with no connection to the British royal family people will make the connection immediately and probably will think you luffs the royals imo (sorry). I would think of something else personally which is a shame as William is such a gorgeous name!

It's not like a "celebrity" pairing that may only be around for a few years then fade from popular memory. The Royal brothers will probably be in the media for most of your sons lives and yes, I think it could be extremely dull and wearing for them to have to put up with comments for their entire lives.

Everyone will comment on it. All the f*ing time. And they will all think they are the first to do it and it's amazingly funny. Don't do it

Of course you should name your DCs how you please, but you should also be aware that most people will notice the royal connection, and will form their own opinions whether they mention it or not. It sounds a bit 'wannabe' IMO

In the whole scheme of things, they will live together for a very short time , they will be grown men with their own lives before you blink..
If those are the names you like (both strong, manly names IMO) then go with it, their names will be said on their own, far more than together 😊

On a side note, my sister has a Peppa and George (the pigs) 😁

I think it's far too royalist but I'm sure there are lots of families up and down the country with a William and a Harry.
