Esme is pretty but it's very 'now' & as someone said above everyone seems to pronounce it differently.

I love Emily because that is my daughters name.

However it is much more popular now than it was when I named her. The popularity may put me off now.

I much prefer Esme. Elizabeth (Liz / Beth) is just a bit dull and dated. Emily is slightly boring but also a little insipid.

Emily is by far the most popular, along with Amelia.
Esme is having growing in popularity- i definitely prefer Ez-me to Esmay, but you'll probably always be correcting people.
Elizabeth is timeless, but seems to be more popular in diminutive form - I know quite a few little Bettys, Betsys and Elizas.
