What are the general opinions of the name Theodore (Theo for short)? Is it too old fashioned, too pretentious? I really like the sound of it, bit am wondering how it is viewed by other people.

I prefer just Theo

chinlo · 30/09/2016 13:53

I like it. So do lots of other people: names.darkgreener.com/#theo

That's funny, we don't have any Theos around us and have not met any in the playgroups we've been going to. That's why I was curious to see what people thought.

If you were to add the Theodores and Theos for 2015, it would be 16th on the ONS list, between Leo and Joshua.

So pretty popular these days.

It is a nice name though, that's why! Theodore can be shortened to Teddy/Ted too, if you're that way inclined.

Lovely name (I prefer Theodore and Tad as a nn though), but achingly popular, which is why we nixed it for DS (along with Benedict, another name I love but it seems that every baby that isn't called Theo/Theodore is called Ben these days)

Closetlibrarian · 30/09/2016 14:01

Ooops, should have said 'Ted' as a nn! Not Tad!

mumsnit · 30/09/2016 17:05

Love it. Really is super popular though. We also crossed it off our list sadly as its a great name!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/09/2016 19:21

I like Theo and Theon, but Theodore just sounds a bit pretentious to me.
I'm probably in the minority, with my opinion. 😬

rhiaaaaaaaannon · 30/09/2016 19:23

I like it but everyone I know hates it.

Stillwishihadabs · 30/09/2016 19:27

My Theo ( Theodore) was born in 2004, did wonder at the time why it wasn't more popular !

5madthings · 30/09/2016 19:28

Love it, have a 17 yr old theo(dore) who is theo day to day. He has always been the only one at school etc but it's more popular amongst under fives now, I know a few toddler theos.

We always called our son theodorable as a baby, he isn't so kern on that nickname now!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/09/2016 20:07

Theodorable is the best ! 😄

Sophronia · 01/10/2016 12:00

It's nice but very newly popular/trendy

katemess12 · 02/10/2016 10:18

I don't like it.

The only Theos I've known have been girls and it's been short for Theodora.

Theodore just makes me think of chipmunks, or the President. And I simply don't like "Theo".
