I have fallen in love with Winston but wonder if there is still too much association with Mr Churchill.

Its a great name, and why would you worry about it being associated with Churchill? Great man to be associated with

MadamePeacock · 28/09/2016 08:55

Oh yes, great man, just worry people will say "oh after Churchill" all the time.

I find it more likely they would put on a hilarious fake Jamaican accent to be honest.

AdaLovelacesCat · 28/09/2016 08:57

but as you say, it is a fine name.

Clickncollect · 28/09/2016 08:58

Billie Piper has a son by that name. I like it!

GinIsIn · 28/09/2016 09:05

I like it!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/09/2016 09:05

Good, strong, masculine name. love it.😄

OhTheRoses · 28/09/2016 09:07

Agree with Ada but I spent many ears in South London where I heard the name regularly.

whattodowiththepoo · 28/09/2016 09:08

Absolutely love winston.

MuseumOfCurry · 28/09/2016 09:33

My son had an adorable Winston in reception with him. I adored him, he was indeed spirited, but what a cutie. I like the name.

Laniakea · 28/09/2016 09:37

Not at all! It's a great name :)

PunkAssMoFo · 28/09/2016 10:12

I wanted winston for ds. DH vetoed & everyone said it was a dogs name. I still love it, but can't really imagine myself calling it across the playground. I think it will become a little more popular in the coming years though. It is a good strong name, which is currently underused.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2016 10:30

I like it - I do think of Churchill and The Sweet Valley Twins books, but that's really just because I haven't met any others! I think I'd get used to an 'actual person' called that very quickly.

bluebirdx · 28/09/2016 11:28

My dog is called Winston, he's is a big English Bulldog Grin

NataliaOsipova · 28/09/2016 11:34

It is a prostitution parlour in Leeds, so very bad connotations for me.

chinlo · 28/09/2016 11:53

I would not have made the Churchill link off the bat. I'm guessing most people from future generations won't either. Even seeing the title of this thread, I clicked on it asking myself "why would it be unusable??"

I figured you must have known somebody or a pet with the same name or something!

FindingNemoFindingDory · 28/09/2016 13:45

I wouldn't, but that's because I don't like it!

Teahornet · 28/09/2016 13:46

I think it's cool. For me the associations are with older men of Caribbean descent, rather than Churchill, though.

Pipilangstrumpf · 28/09/2016 14:40

Winston is a great name - strong, cool and classic! And Churchill isn't a bad association! Go for it.

kristine007 · 28/09/2016 21:57

My little boy is named Winston!
I am so glad we chose this name and I almost always get compliments on it :)

AudreyBradshaw · 28/09/2016 23:35

I love it, our surname does not allow for it at all.

MotherDuckSaid · 29/09/2016 09:43

I really like it, funnily I thought of billy pipers son, who has the name and only jumped to the Churchill association when I began reading ur post (even tho I prefer history to celebrities)!
I think its a solid name and due a comeback 😊
