Albert/Albie?

Hi,
We have just found out we are having a boy and the one name we have agreed on the name Albert, but calling him Albie as a nick name. What is everyone's opinion on an "old fashioned" name? His big sister is Emily and they have a double barreled last name x

I love Albie Smile not as keen on Albert but it's getting more popular. Also love Emily & Albie, so cute!
Congrats

Caldini22 · 21/09/2016 18:25

Albie is really popular where I live

MrsCaecilius · 21/09/2016 18:42

Nothing wrong with 'old fashioned', otherwise known as 'classic'!

Albie goes well with Emily and I like it having Albert as a full name too.

panad317 · 21/09/2016 18:45

Love Albie!! Wish DP would let me use it. Goes really well with Emily too.

sonlypuppyfat · 21/09/2016 18:45

I always think these names went out of fashion for a reason, I don't like it, sorry

GoNorthDarren · 21/09/2016 18:45

I think Albert / Albie and Emily sound very nice together.

I have heard Albie is popular but I haven't actually met one yet. I've met heaps of little Alfies. At least by giving him the longer name Albert you have the choice of Albie or Bertie.

cosmicglittergirl · 21/09/2016 18:47

I've met two Albies under two. Albert nn Albie was on my list for DD2. I still like it.

Everytimeref · 21/09/2016 18:47

My 11 day old grandson is called Albert. Albie for short. I really like it!

GabbySolis · 21/09/2016 18:49

I love it! I wanted that name for a boy butmy husband said noSad

Sophronia · 22/09/2016 00:25

Love Albert

PotatoBread · 22/09/2016 09:22

I love Albie. You could use Albyn as the full name if you didn't want to go with Albert.

Albyn nn Alby was on my list but ended up having a DD :)

names.darkgreener.com/#albert

No. 72 on the ONS list this year. So not super common, but it is gaining in popularity, as are LOTS of "old-fashioned" names. Fashion is cyclical.

Personally I don't like it, but who cares what I think? I'm just a stranger on the internet.

strawberrypenguin · 22/09/2016 12:02

I like it but I'm biased! My 3 month old Albert is asleep on me! We use Bertie as a 'shortening' but Albie is nice too

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/09/2016 12:05

I always think of Albie as a pet name. Don't like it at all.

MoreGilmoreGirls · 22/09/2016 12:16

I like it but it is very popular round here so as long as you don't mind that then go for it.

Pipilangstrumpf · 22/09/2016 16:11

I'm aftraid I really dislike Albie (and Archie, Alfie etc) as they sound so cutesy and comical to my ears. Albert is quite nice but I'd not shorten it.

CPtart · 22/09/2016 16:29

^ditto

BeastofCraggyIsland · 22/09/2016 21:10

Agree with Pipi above; Albie is cute for a baby or toddler but not so much for a teenager or grown man, which he'll be for a lot longer.

SansaClegane · 22/09/2016 21:15

I have an Albert, who goes by a (completely unrelated) nickname. Personally I don't like 'Albie' as it's too much like Alfie, Archie, Charlie, Jamie etc which is a bit twee and cutesy.
And yes, the name has gained a lot in popularity - I think it was ONS ranked 164 or something when I named my DS! Now in the top 100 Confused it might even gain some more now, with the itv Victoria series.

Honeybee79 · 22/09/2016 21:45

I love both and really wanted to call DS Albert with a view to shortening it to Albie. However, DH refused on the grounds that a "Prince Albert" is a pierced cock . . . . who knew?! Shock

However, in my view and as I said to DH at the time, I really doubt that people will make that association at all. Only weirdos like my husband.

eastcoastmum2014 · 24/09/2016 14:00

Haha!! I didn't think about the prince Albert 😞.... I think my little boy has his name 😊 he shall be Albert... Unless of course he comes out and doesn't suit it 😂

OP - it is a lovely name. As I said, I doubt anyone other than my weird husband would make the association. I really like it and would have used it.
