Agree with all of the above. Ivy is gorgeous but please no more Maes!!

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/09/2016 11:09

I like it but do prefer Mae spelled May.

passingthrough1 · 21/09/2016 12:34

As long as not hyphenated I don't see the issue ... No one really knows people's middle names, so if you like it go for it. First names are the ones that are important.

Stilldreamingofsun · 23/09/2016 09:33

I love Ivy and Iris. Not keen on Mae- I think you almost need a two syllable middle name!

blinkowl · 23/09/2016 09:43

OP if you've never been around small children - or not been on the mumsnet name boards - it may have escaped your attention that Mae / May is one of the default middle names that everyone seems to use for some reason. Rose and Grace are the other two.

I'd love to see the stats on these names I wouldn't be surprised if over 50% of girls under 10 have one of these as their middle name.

Every time I see all 3 on a middle name thread (which is often) I think BINGO!

DownWithThisSortaThing · 23/09/2016 10:17

Yeah blink they are just so popular now.
I actually like May/Mae, Rose and Grace as names. They are classic and beautiful.
However every time it pops up on mine or DP's Facebook that an acquaintance or friend has had a baby girl, every single time it's Something-Mae or Something-Rose. Not so much Grace in our area. So I wouldn't use them as a middle name for that reason - it's become a bit unimaginative and predictable but they are nice names on their own.

AGruffaloCrumble · 23/09/2016 10:23

Ivy Juliet is beautiful. Middle names are hard. Mae is definitely popular but I think Ivy is creeping back into popularity too. I just disregard popularity at all. One of my girls had a top 10 name, the other has something along the lines of Ivy. Both have 'proper' middle names though.

A longer names works better imo with a short first name.

Ivy Marina
Ivy Mattina
Ivy Mirelle

Ivy Estelle

AmberGreyson · 23/09/2016 11:17

oh it's so sweet and lovely name, i love Ivy

everdene · 23/09/2016 11:30

Ivy Kate is beautiful!

ExtraMushroomsPlease · 23/09/2016 20:29

Love Ivy, I have a 6 yo one Smile. Not sure on mae though, love Ivy Kate

midcenturymodern · 23/09/2016 20:34

Be mindful of the combination with your last name. I as an initial can be tricky and I know 2 girls with the name-may surname combination whose full name forms a hilarious sentence.

crayfish · 23/09/2016 20:37

Ivy is fantastic, middle name of Mae is overdone and naff.

I do know an Ivy-Mae and I think it's a shame they didn't just go with Ivy.

Sukitakeitoff · 23/09/2016 20:41

Ivy is lovely. I love Mae too, and I think they go really well together, so I guess it depends on whether you mind how popular Mae seems to be as a middle name.

ivykaty44 · 23/09/2016 20:41

I must admit I do rather like Ivy Kate.....

purplefox · 23/09/2016 23:41

I loved Mae until it became so overused, now I'm just "eugh" every time I hear it.

BackforGood · 23/09/2016 23:50

May / Mae as either a middle name or a doubled barrelled name seems to have been given to every 3rd baby over the last 8 years or so.
To me it always sounds like the start of a sentence "Ivy may come out to play later...."

Barefootcontessa84 · 24/09/2016 08:19

Mae is terrible, especially since it seems to be stuck onto the end of anything these days. I'd stick with Ivy.

NoFucksImAQueen · 24/09/2016 08:21

Ivy grace is lovely. Mae is very popular now which is fine if you don't care

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 24/09/2016 08:27

I can't really rationalise it, but I think Ivy May is lovely, but not Ivy Mae!
I've come across an Ivy Ann recently, which I think goes beautifully.

dotdotdotmustdash · 24/09/2016 08:38

Why not move on from Ivy Mae and have Ivy June instead :-)
