I have having Ivy baby due in October , I love it but can't stand may as name

LOVE Ivy
I'd spell it Ivy May, but then I'm a bit old school like that.

I think Ivy is a pretty name. It's not up there in stellar lights for me, but it's very feminine and sweet.

I'd have to echo what others have said about Mae. Mae as a middle name has been so overused lately, so it sounds copycat and not really in a good way, because Mae is just a bit twee. I don't like the spelling Mae because unlike May it has no literal meanings - that's why it sounds twee. I'm sorry to be negative; there might be great connotations to Mae but I'm simply not aware of any. I don't like how May sounds either.

Love Ivy! Agree about Mae though. There are 8 other girls at my 2yo goddaughter's nursery and 6 of them have Mae or May as their middle name!

Just reiterating (probably a little unnecessary at this juncture, but anyway) that Ivy is lovely, but I find Mae so overused as a middle name or as the second half of a hyphenated name where I live that it has lost all meaning. It's a shame really as it is a pretty name.

I wonder if it's because it was popular as a first name 80-90 years ago and now all the grandchildren are having their own babies and using it as a middle name to honour their grandmothers? But then there are so many Something Maes or Something-Maes about they can't all have had great grandmothers named Mae...

Anyway, Ivy Raine is lovely. I also like Ivy Joy or Ivy Eleanor.

Absolutely love Ivy. DS would've been Ivy if he was a girl.
Agree with others though I wouldn't use Mae. It's so over done now, it seems ever other little girl has it as a middle name.

Ivy is beautiful! Not keen on Mae though Blush

Love Ivy as it's my DD's name. Smile

But I don't like Mae. I love Ivy Kate too.

Another vote for Ivy Kate here.

Someone on another thread described Rose as a 'filler' middle name. I feel the same about Mae. It's like there's been zero thought put into it. Ivy Kate feels a lot fresher and more original.

Hate the Mae.
I do think it's people naming after grandmothers that started the May/Mae/Mai trend (and the spelling variances are just what happens) but it's so so overused now. The Mae spelling makes me actually cringe now as it's so clichéd.

Ivy Kate is gorgeous.

I don't know loads of Maes, only a couple and both are because it's a family name, so I still like it. I wouldn't hyphenate though.

My middle name is Mae and I'm 28 years old. (Not named after family) Smile

I like it with Ivy.

I think the middle name is too short to go with a short first name.

How about Ivy Maeve? Or Ivy Maelle? I like Ivis Mae as well.

Mae is nice and so is Ivy but perhaps not together. Mother is Mãe in Portuguese. The accent changes things so it's not quite the same.

Or Iris Mae even.

Sophronia · 20/09/2016 14:58

Ivy Jane would be nice too

Dontrocktheboat · 20/09/2016 17:50

Ivy is nice, as people have said the combination with Mae/ May is vastly overdone so I would think of a more original middle name.

Ivy Kate is gorgeous! I might have to steal it Wink
