Osheen is how my do pronounces it

SuburbanRhonda · 18/09/2016 10:15

Please don't say you're thinking of using a baby name that you can't pronounce Shock

treaclesoda · 18/09/2016 10:15

I would pronounce it Osh-een. Or Oh-sheen. I've heard it pronounced both ways. I would be guided by the person whose name it is (or their parents, if it is a baby) as to how they want it pronounced.

ohmygodyouguys · 18/09/2016 10:15

Aw-sheen. My husband's cousin has a little boy called Oisin.

VioletBam · 18/09/2016 10:17

I've only heard it said "Oh-Sheen" and never Aw-Sheen

fragiolo · 18/09/2016 10:17

Usheen. If you live in UK and call your child Oisin they will have to prounounce and/or spell it every day of their life. Take it from one who knows!

Janek · 18/09/2016 10:19

I would say usheen too. I really like the name.

ShowOfHands · 18/09/2016 10:19

My mate is uh sheen.

courtwood · 18/09/2016 10:23

usheen

MaudGonneMad · 18/09/2016 10:25

It's 'Uh-sheen' - and the correct spelling is Oisín.

PatronSaintOfNothing · 18/09/2016 10:27

It's my son's name and we pronounce it Osh - een because I'm northern Irish. If you're from the south you'd pronounce it Oh - sheen.

PotatoBread · 18/09/2016 10:27

I've heard it pronounced Osh-sheen and Oh-Sheen.

PatronSaintOfNothing · 18/09/2016 10:28

Or Usheen, I've heard it said that way too by people from the South. And yeah if you live in mainland Britain noone ever pronounces it correctly.

Soubriquet · 18/09/2016 10:31

I've heard it pronounced oh-sheen

Chiliprepper · 18/09/2016 10:31

I've heard it both ways aw-sheen/uh-sheen and O-sheen. Think the pronunciation divide is on similar lines to Row-sheen rosh-een for roisin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/09/2016 10:37

Osh-een

villainousbroodmare · 18/09/2016 10:38

The correct pronunciation is UH-sheen. Subject to minor accent variation. Fada on the i as pp says.
Róisín has a fada on both o and i which lengthens the sound, so RO-sheen.
Roisín is not a recognised name but would be pronounced RUSH-een.

Chiliprepper · 18/09/2016 11:24

Maybe in theory but certainly not I practice in my experience villian, have known many people, young and old, by either pronounciation of both names. North and south

WaitrosePigeon · 18/09/2016 11:47

Oi-Zin?

Sophronia · 18/09/2016 12:05

Uh-sheen or Oh-sheen. I've heard both.

twinjocks · 18/09/2016 15:42

There are millions of under 10yo Oisins in Dublin atm and every one I've come across is pronounced Uh-sheen.

DramaAlpaca · 18/09/2016 15:45

In Ireland it's Uh-sheen, with a slight stress on the second syllable, and the correct spelling is Oisín.

hardtopinpoint · 18/09/2016 15:46

In Welsh it's Osh-Ann

And it's lovely

wineapotamus · 18/09/2016 17:20

Osian (Welsh version of this) is on our very very short list. I love it! I was really hoping this baby would be a girl because we didn't have a great boy's name but now I'm excited about the prospect of using it. It's unusual but easy to pronounce (and nickname Oshy for a little teeny one is super cute).
