Hi just wondered your thoughts on this name.

Dd2 due in October and opals are the October birthstones.

Finding girls names so hard!!

We need something quite unusual as our other dc's have uncommon named..

Thanks in advance

I like it.

I think a lot of people will think "fruit" as in the sweets, I did. But children get called Felix (cat food), Yasmin (contraceptive pill) and Flora (margarine) all the time so shouldn't really be an issue.

lavenderpekins · 02/09/2016 15:59

Our surname is so boring/common too.. Is it faddy though? I want longevity! And I don't want to go off it!

I think it's pretty

twinjocks · 02/09/2016 16:07

I really like it.

PepsiPenguin · 02/09/2016 16:09

I like it too, it's been added to my list Grin

FourForYouGlenCoco · 02/09/2016 16:10

I like it! Not faddy at all I don't think, it's not currently trendy afaik so won't date either. Very unusual and pretty, with a nice significance. Go for it OP!

Scribblegirl · 02/09/2016 16:11

I like it. You might hear that Opals are unlucky but ignore that - total myth!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 02/09/2016 16:14

I know an Opal who is 19 yo. It's pretty, I like it.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/09/2016 16:14

Opals are only unlucky if they're not your birthstone (October birthday hereSmile)

ageingrunner · 02/09/2016 16:14

Vauxhall

DarkLikeVader · 02/09/2016 16:20

I like it, it differs but not too out there. And luck is what you make it surely?! I think opal fruit sweeties haven't existed for ages so that shouldn't be a problem.

EssentialHummus · 02/09/2016 16:22

Opel (e) is Vauxhall's name in some parts of the world, and there's the fruit thing, but I rather like it.

ElspethFlashman · 02/09/2016 16:23

My favourite stone of all time so I think it's nice. I like that it's simple too. Easy to spell/say/understand.

Not as old fashioned as say, Pearl.

MouldyPeach · 02/09/2016 16:25

It's lovely, but difficult to make a middle name fit I think

Mottled · 02/09/2016 17:07

It's nice. Opal Fruits have been called Star Burst for yonks now.

fluentinsarcasm · 02/09/2016 17:54

It's a nice name that will suit her at any age. PLEASE don't have Rose as the mn, it will cheapen it IMO.

Soubriquet · 02/09/2016 17:56

Love it! I read a book where Opal is one of the main characters! She has a sister called Tula which I quite like too

Sophronia · 02/09/2016 18:54

It's nice

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/09/2016 19:17

Mottled

I thought that and found myself slightly confused when I saw packets of Opal Fruits in a shop recently. I'm sure they changed to Star Bursts way back in the 90's. It wouldn't put me off the name. Who doesn't like sweets!

Nonameyet1 · 02/09/2016 19:27

I don't instantly love it but could be a grower!

lavenderpekins · 02/09/2016 20:40

It's growing on me too..

No md I don't think fluent 😁

I was actually expecting MN to hate it!

I love Opal. Simple and beautiful. I also really like Topaz.

lalaland1985 · 03/09/2016 09:51

Oh my goodness I love it! Go for it!

LunaLoveg00d · 03/09/2016 09:58

It does sound a little old-fashioned, but that's not a bad thing. It's like Ruby or Pearl.
