Just Sam?

ImperialBlether · 30/08/2016 20:50

Is your eldest son estranged from his father?

Do you like short names or longer names? Traditional or new?

Thelastusername · 30/08/2016 20:54

Samson?

isitseptemberyet · 30/08/2016 20:56

Our eldest son is ten, we arent estranged , we went on to have three girls after our first son, so we've always referred to him as our 'only special boy'! He's Very close to his dad, and has felt a bit anxious about us loving another boy. He doesnt want the new baby to be called Sam/ Samuel after his dad as tht may make the baby more special than him (he's a sensitive soul)!
The other name we like is Hugo, but i dont Love it. We like biblical (although we arent religious) , solid, old fashioned names, maybe a bit more leaning to the 'posh side' !
Any help would be so appreciated :)

I've always thought that children named after parents can get confusing. Can you make Samuel a second or middle name?

EllaHen · 30/08/2016 20:58

David

annandale · 30/08/2016 20:59

Jacob
Noah
Joel
Daniel

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 30/08/2016 21:00

Could you use Samuel as a middle name for the new baby instead?

Daniel
Jacob
Joseph
Matthew

These names have a similar feel to them

babyblabber · 30/08/2016 21:03

Ah bless, that is so sweet, the poor little fellow! What about asking him for some help picking the name and that could help ease the blow and bond him with his new brother?

QueenLizIII · 30/08/2016 21:04

Saul.

Biblical and just an M and an E removed from Samuel to make Saul too.

Bless your DS!

Joseph - Joe

CRazzyyAce · 30/08/2016 21:11

It is normally tradition that if you name after the father its the first born son, I wouldn't even if is already upset.

IcedVanillaLatte · 30/08/2016 21:13

I think the kid has a point TBH.

Despicablyme · 30/08/2016 21:14

I'm on his side tbh

GoldFishFingerz · 30/08/2016 21:16

Joseph is similar in that it's quite a gentle Sounding name. Benjamin also

GoldFishFingerz · 30/08/2016 21:17

Hew Hugh Hugo is lovely

QueenLizIII · 30/08/2016 21:17

Oh yeah, Seth is awesome.

Love Simeon too.

nemno · 30/08/2016 21:24

I totally see your son's issue. Even if he doesn't articulate it he will feel he wasn't worth the most special name but his brother is worth it. There would be 2 Samuels and him. Poor chap.

Nathan/Nathaniel
Dominic
Frederick
Jonathon

CotswoldStrife · 30/08/2016 21:25

Agree that it is normally the first son named after the father, I see your DS's point there.

Gideon (George Osborne may have wounded this name a bit, but it is still nice Grin )
Noah
Joshua
Theo (not Biblical)

isitseptemberyet · 30/08/2016 21:35

loving the suggestions , thank you :)
Yes, totally dont want to upset our first son. It's not even that i want to name this one After his father, it's just a name that ive always liked that his dad happens to share lol
Certainly not worth it at the cost of our ten years old feelings tho.. so trying to search for a name, I can think of about ten girls name i like, despite already having three girls, find boys names so much harder !

I can see where your son s coming from, a kid may well feel that it is special to get your dads name and feel very left out if the new baby gets it.

How about

Nate/ Nathaniel
Joel
Ezra
Eli
Asher
Elijah
Jacob
Reuben
Josiah
Lucas
